Signal transmission and calibration of on-line partial discharge measurements

Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (Cat. No.03CH37417), 2004
Relevant standards such as the IEC60270 concentrate on a measurement frequency band below 1 MHz and on lumped, i.e. non-distributed test objects. On-line partial discharge measurements often require using higher frequencies to avoid noise interference.

Calibration and comparison of partial-discharge and radio-interference measuring circuits

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1968
Methods of calibrating circuits for measuring partial discharges and radio-interference (r.i.) voltages are discussed. It is shown that discharge-measuring circuits, whether using a peak-measuring discharge detector or an r.i. meter, are best calibrated by applying a charge-quantity pulse calibrator of known repetition frequency in parallel with the ...

Fundamentals of Partial-Discharge Detection: System Sensitivity and Calibration

1979
The sensitivity and calibration of partial-discharge detection systems is an important aspect of the general subject of partial-discharge measurements of products or structures involving electrical insulating materials. The primary objective is to perform a measurement, using a detection system having a sensitivity adequate to the purposes of the test,

The innovative inductive calibration technique for partial discharge detection apparatus

Conference Record of the 1988 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation, 2003
The recently devised inductive calibration technique (ICT) for partial-discharge detection offers several advantages over the conventional direct and indirect calibration methods. These include negligible loading of the test circuit, better reproduction of the true partial discharge pulse frequency spectrum and isolation from the applied AC test ...

Problems associated with partial discharge detection calibration in large machines

IEE Colloquium on Discharges in Large Machines, 1998
The detection of partial discharges (PD) has become a standard technique towards the assessment of the integrity of the solid insulating systems of rotating machinery. The author discusses the calibration problem of PD detection instrumentation and whether a solution exists. The author then questions whether or not the problem is all that severe.

Partial discharge measurements and calibration: limits and perspectives for power cables

2010
This paper discusses the limits of partial discharge apparent charge estimation focusing on power cables. In particular, the influence of attenuation and propagation phenomena on partial discharge measurement is highlighted, showing that estimates can diverge significantly from the true apparent charge.
