Partial discharge. XV. Improved PD testing of solid dielectrics using X-ray induced discharge initiation

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1992
For pt.XIV see ibid., vol.8, no.5, p.34 (1992). The effects of X-ray irradiation during partial discharge measurements are discussed. The partial discharge phenomena in cavities is detailed. A full-scale system capable of testing 138-kV-class post insulators under combined electric stress and X-ray radiation was implemented.

Partial discharge deterioration and through-hole formation in polypropylene for power capacitors: Effects of PD magnitude and accumulated PD charge

2017 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM), 2017
The authors have been investigating the deterioration characteristics of polypropylene (PP) films due to partial discharge (PD) in a closed void as a basic study of longterm deterioration of power capacitors. We reported that (1) the number of PD pulses decreased with time and then fluctuated, (2) through holes were observed only after the inception of

Improvement of partial discharge (PD) resistance of epoxy resin by using sulfur‐containing additives

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1994
AbstractIn the field of high‐voltage engineering, it has been desired for a long time to improve the internal PD resistance of epoxy resin without lowering other properties. Recently, the authors discovered that some sulfur compound as curing agents or simple additives improved the PD resistance of rubber markedly, and here an attempt has been made to ...

Partial discharge. XXI. Acoustic emission based PD source location in transformers

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1995
Acoustic emission-based partial discharge source location has been applied successfully to power transformers in both factory and field environments, and this method is becoming an established test procedure with a high success rate. With the aid of local utilities and utility laboratories that use acoustic emission apparatus daily, we expect further ...

Detecting and Monitoring Insulation Failure: A Review of Partial Discharge (PD) Detection Techniques

International Journal of Advances in Engineering and Management
The reliability and efficiency of electrical systems vitally depend on electrical insulation to prevent electricity leakage during transmission. However, due to various operational and environmental factors such as humidity, thermal stress, and others, insulation materials degrade over time. Therefore, detecting and monitoring insulation degradation at
