Particle identification methods in high-energy physics [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2000
Abstract This paper deals with two major particle identification methods: d E /d x and Cherenkov detection. In the first method, we systematically compare existing d E /d x data with various predictions available in the literature, such as the Particle Data Group recommendation, and judge the overall consistency.

Insight-HXMT observations of jet-like corona in a black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Evolution of accretion disk and corona during outbursts in black hole binary systems is still unclear. Here, the authors show spectral analysis of MAXI J1820+070 and propose a scenario of a dynamical corona to explain the evolution of the reflection ...

Broadband Spectral Shaping of Regenerative Amplification with Extra-Cavity Waveplate for Cross Polarized Wave Generation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
We demonstrated extra-cavity gain narrowing pre-compensating in a regenerative amplifier with a multi-order triple-wavelength waveplate (WP). With a 1.117 mm thickness quartz waveplate, which was placed on the stretcher, the gain narrowing effect was ...

The Design of the Emission Layer for Electron Multipliers

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2021
The electron multipliers gain is closely related to the secondary electron emission coefficient (SEE) of the emission layer materials. The SEE is closely related to the thickness of the emission layer.

The Design of the AZO Conductive Layer on Microchannel Plate

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2021
When the resistivity of the AZO conductive layer is within the MCP resistance requirement, the interval of the Zn content is very narrow (70–73%) and difficult to control.

Particle Convolution for High Energy Physics

open access: yesCoRR, 2021
We introduce the Particle Convolution Network (PCN), a new type of equivariant neural network layer suitable for many tasks in jet physics. The particle convolution layer can be viewed as an extension of Deep Sets and Energy Flow network architectures, in which the permutation-invariant operator is promoted to a group convolution.

Improved cross polarized wave generation with an aperture

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
A cross polarized wave (XPW) generation experiment with double BaF2 crystals in air was demonstrated with 120 µJ input pulse. A circular aperture was used to truncate the near field profile of the input beam and remove the outer part of the beam, and ...

Role of magnetic interactions in neutron stars

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
In this work, we present a calculation of the non-Fermi liquid correction to the specific heat of magnetized degenerate quark matter present at the core of the neutron star.
