Nuclear and Particle Astrophysics

open access: yes, 1990
We discuss the physics of matter that is relevant to the structure of compact stars. This includes nuclear, neutron star matter and quark matter and phase transitions between them. Many aspects of neutron star structure and its dependance on a number of physical assumptions about nuclear matter properties and hyperon couplings are investigated. We also

Assessing Cloud and Precipitation Properties on Temporal Scales Using LASSO Simulations Over the ARM Eastern North Atlantic (ENA) Site

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The representation of low clouds and precipitation remains a major source of uncertainty in Earth System Models (ESMs), particularly due to challenges in representing their sub‐grid variability and scale‐dependent sampling. This study evaluates the performance of preliminary simulations from the Large‐Eddy Simulation (LES) Atmospheric ...

A string theory for two dimensional Yang-Mills theory. Part I

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
Two dimensional gauge theories with charged matter fields are useful toy models for studying gauge theory dynamics, and in particular for studying the duality of large N gauge theories to perturbative string theories.

The Ceiling Height of Wildland Fire Plumes in Quasi‐Steady Stratified and Sheared Boundary Layers

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Radar observations from a prescribed fire experiment reveal a large‐scale, billow‐like vorticity structure associated with the plume head near the onset of plume bending. This bending limits the vertical extent of the plume and defines the characteristic plume ceiling height.

On the Generation of Pre‐Sunrise Equatorial Plasma Bubbles in Southeast Asia During the Geomagnetic Storm of May 2024

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract A set of fresh Equatorial Plasma Bubbles (EPBs) formed during pre‐sunrise hours in the Southeast Asian sector amid the recovery phase of May 2024 geomagnetic storm. They offered new insights into their formation mechanism. This study used Total Electron Content (TEC) and Rate of TEC Index maps over Indonesia, along with ionosondes in Thailand ...

Carbonate‐Associated Sulfate Does Not Record Superheavy δ34S in Deep Scandinavian Bedrock Fractures: Implications for Pyrite Formation in the Deep Biosphere

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract In deep bedrock fractures of the Fennoscandian shield, pyrite with “superheavy” δ34S values of up to 147‰ exists together with calcite. The extreme variability and 34S‐enrichment in pyrite indicate that microbial sulfate reduction (MSR) evolved to almost complete sulfate exhaustion in closed‐system microenvironments.

Petrogenesis and Tectonic Evolution of Cenozoic Magmatism in the Southernmost Northern Andes: Insights From Zircon Petrochronology

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract This study integrates new zircon U–Pb ages, zircon εHf(t)–δ18O isotopic data, and whole‐rock geochemistry to refine the temporal and spatial framework of magmatism in the southern Northern Andes (SNA) from ∼65 to 6 Ma. The San Lucas, Catamayo, Portachuela, and Gonzanamá batholiths and magmatic suites, along with Late Miocene plutons, display ...

System Identification Based Models for Electron Fluxes Measured by GOES 16

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract System identification is employed to develop a set of models to forecast the electron fluxes at geostationary orbit. The energy of the electron fluxes are based on the measurements of (GOES 16) (MPS‐HI). The GOES 16 generation of spacecraft measures a wide range of electron energies, 10 energy channels from 50 keV to 4 MeV, compared to its ...

Polytropic Index and Thermodynamic Behavior of the Central Plasma Sheet Near Lunar Distances

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract In addition to making near‐Earth observations, the THEMIS/ARTEMIS mission is uniquely positioned at lunar distance, in the deep magnetotail, reaching distances of 60 RE ${R}_{E}$ and further. This vantage point allows ARTEMIS to access the plasma sheet and measure entropy evolution across convective channels, plasma flow gradients ...
