Pollutant particles emission has been a major source of worry for many years due to their negative health impacts. For health risk assessment, it is critical to understand how to assess pollutant particles transportation and deposition (TD) in human lung

Combustion sources of particles. 1. Health relevance and source signatures [PDF]
Combustion processes result in generation of a large number of particle and gaseous products that create health and environmental risks. Of particular importance are the very small particles that are emitted in large quantities from all the combustion sources, and that have been shown to be potentially more significant in terms of their impact on ...

Determination of reactivity rates of silicate particle-size fractions
The efficiency of sources used for soil acidity correction depends on reactivity rate (RR) and neutralization power (NP), indicated by effective calcium carbonate (ECC).

Nanomaterials Based Nanoplasmonic Accelerators and Light-Sources Driven by Particle-Beams
Unprecedented tens of TVm−1 fields are modeled to be realizable using novel nanoplasmonic surface crunch-in modes in nanomaterials. These relativistic nonlinear surface modes are accessible due to advances in nanofabrication and quasi-solid ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Particle Swarm Optimization-Based Source Seeking [PDF]
Signal source seeking using autonomous vehicles is a complex problem. The complexity increases manifold when signal intensities captured by physical sensors onboard are noisy and unreliable. Added to the fact that signal strength decays with distance, noisy environments make it extremely difficult to describe and model a decay function.

Particle production sources in pPb and PbPb at the LHC
Hadron production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at LHC energies is investigated. After a brief consideration of stopping, particle production is accounted for in a nonequilibrium-statistical model with two fragmentation sources, and a central ...
