Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Localizing multiple radiation sources actively with a particle filter

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
We discuss the localization of radiation sources whose number and other relevant parameters are not known in advance. The data collection is ensured by an autonomous mobile robot that performs a survey in a defined region of interest populated with ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Indoor particle sources and spatial variation of particle concentration in a prison [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Due to the very specific nature of prisons , there have been very few limited indoor air quality studies. Thus, unlike other indoor environments , the understanding of indoor air quality in prisons is poor.

Intrinsic speckle noise in in-line particle holography due to poly-disperse and continuous particle sizes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In-line particle holography is subject to image deterioration due to intrinsic speckle noise. The resulting reduction in the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the replayed image can become critical for applications such as holographic particle velocimetry ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

A pilot study on the effect of indoor particle sources on indoor particle concentration in residential houses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Characterization of indoor particle sources from 14 residential houses in Brisbane, Australia,\ud was performed. The approximation of PM2.5 and the submicrometre particle number\ud concentrations were measured simultaneously for more than 48 h in the ...

Fine particle components and health--a systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiological time series studies of daily mortality and hospital admissions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Short-term exposure to fine particle mass (PM) has been associated with adverse health effects, but little is known about the relative toxicity of particle components.
