A Bayesian interpretation of the particle swarm optimization and its kernel extension. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Particle swarm optimization is a popular method for solving difficult optimization problems. There have been attempts to formulate the method in formal probabilistic or stochastic terms (e.g.

A dynamic adaptive particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm for different constrained engineering design optimization problems

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
A dynamic adaptive particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm is presented to solve constrained engineering optimization problems. A dynamic adaptive inertia factor is introduced in the basic particle swarm optimization algorithm to balance the ...

The Assessment of Straightness and Flatness Errors Using Particle Swarm Optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The straightness and flatness errors are generally assessed by using the Least Squares Method (LSM). However, the results obtained from LSM often overestimate the tolerances, and are not consistent with the ISO standards’ definitions.

A hybrid gene selection method based on gene scoring strategy and improved particle swarm optimization

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2019
Background Gene selection is one of the critical steps in the course of the classification of microarray data. Since particle swarm optimization has no complicated evolutionary operators and fewer parameters need to be adjusted, it has been used ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
