Unusual “Asian-origin” 2c to 2b point mutant canine parvovirus (Parvoviridae) and canine astrovirus (Astroviridae) co-infection detected in vaccinated dogs with an outbreak of severe haemorrhagic gastroenteritis with high mortality rate in Hungary [PDF]

open access: hybridVeterinary Research Communications, 2022
AbstractIn this study, the aetiological background of an outbreak of severe haemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) in a colony of purebred Jack Russell Terriers vaccinated against CPV-2 in Hungary was investigated. Canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2, Parvoviridae) and canine astrovirus (CaAstV, Astroviridae) co-infection was identified by viral metagenomics and ...

Unveiling Novel Viral Diversity, Biogeography, and Host Networks in Wildlife Through High-Throughput Sequencing Data Mining. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Analysis of 57 536 high‐throughput sequencing datasets uncovers a vast, hidden world of viruses in wildlife. The researchers reveal significant geographic and host‐specific patterns of viruses, and their surprising cross‐species transmissions, such as avian flu viruses infecting goats.

Isolation, Identification and Phylogenetic Analysis of Canine Parvovirus Type 2c in Two Regions of Iran. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
Canine parvovirus Type 2c (CPV‐2c) was isolated from infected dogs in Iran and identified through VP2 gene sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis revealed close genetic links to Asian and African strains. A novel L583I mutation was detected, warranting further investigation into its impact on viral antigenicity and vaccine efficacy.

Sensitive detection systems for infectious agents in xenotransplantation*

open access: yesXenotransplantation, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract Xenotransplantation of pig cells, tissues, or organs may be associated with transmission of porcine microorganisms, first of all of viruses, to the transplant recipient, potentially inducing a disease (zoonosis). I would like to define detection systems as the complex of sample generation, sample preparation, sample origin, time of sampling ...

Parvovirus B19 infection during pregnancy: a problem not only for the gynaecologist

open access: yesPediatria i Medycyna Rodzinna, 2019
Parvovirus B19 (B19V), which belongs to the Parvoviridae family, is one of the smallest viruses causing infections in humans. It is estimated that approximately 60% of the population will have a parvovirus B19 infection at some point in their lives based

Small but mighty: old and new parvoviruses of veterinary significance

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2021
In line with the Latin expression “sed parva forti” meaning “small but mighty,” the family Parvoviridae contains many of the smallest known viruses, some of which result in fatal or debilitating infections.

Human Bocavirus Infections in Hospitalized Children and Adults

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
Studies have reported human bocavirus (HBoV) in children with respiratory tract infections (RTIs), but only occasionally in adults. We searched for HBoV DNA in nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPAs) from adults with exacerbations of chronic bronchitis or ...

Exploring the Enteric Virome of Cats with Acute Gastroenteritis

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2023
Viruses are a major cause of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in cats, chiefly in younger animals. Enteric specimens collected from 29 cats with acute enteritis and 33 non-diarrhoeic cats were screened in PCRs and reverse transcription (RT) PCR for a large ...

Detection of Human Bocavirus DNA by Multiplex PCR Analysis: Postmortem Case Report

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2015
Background: Human bocavirus (HBoV) is a virus belonging to the Parvoviridae family, which has been newly discovered to be associated with respiratory tract infections in children. There are many reports worldwide on the endemicity of this virus. Since it
