Pharmacological Trials of Crude Extract ofPassiflora alata

Planta Medica, 1984
Dry extract obtained from leaves of PASSIFLORA ALATA yielded 0.217 mg% of harman-like alkaloids and 44.8 mg% of flavonoids. Intraperitoneal administration (i. p.) of 75 and 150 mg/kg of this extract reduced the spontaneous motor activity and prolonged the sleeping time induced by pentobarbital sodium in mice. The extract showed anticonvulsant action on

Comparative pharmacological study of hydroethanol extracts of Passiflora alata and Passiflora edulis leaves†

Phytotherapy Research, 2001
AbstractSeveral species of the genus Passiflora, known in Brazil as ‘maracujá’, have widespread use in folk medicine as sedatives and tranquillizers. The anxiolytic activity of hydroethanol extracts of P. alata and P. edulis leaves was evaluated using the elevated plus‐maze test.

Passiflora alata and Passiflora edulis spray-dried aqueous extracts inhibit inflammation in mouse model of pleurisy

Fitoterapia, 2007
The aqueous leaves extracts of Passiflora alata (100-300 mg/kg, i.p.) and Passiflora edulis (100-1000 mg/kg, i.p.) possess a significant antiinflammatory activity on carrageenan-induced pleurisy in mice. Treatment with the extracts inhibited leukocyte migration and reduced the formation of exudate.

Identification of a Passiflora alata Curtis dimeric peptide showing identity with 2S albumins

Peptides, 2011
Antifungal proteins and peptides, essential compounds for plant defense, have been isolated from several tissues of various plants. These proteins could be used as a natural alternative to control phytopathogenic fungi. In this report a heterodimeric antifungal protein named Pa-AFP1, showing higher identity with the 2S albumin family, was purified by ...

LC and UV determination of flavonoids from Passiflora alata medicinal extracts and leaves

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2005
The leaves of Passiflora alata Curtis (an official species in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia) are used to treat anxiety, as antispasmodics and sedatives. The development of new analytical methods for analysing flavonoids in Passiflora species is needed in order to improve the quality assurance of the plant and derived extracts and phytomedicines. A survey

Mineral Deficiency inPassiflora alataCurtis: Vitexin Bioproduction

Journal of Plant Nutrition, 2008
ABSTRACT A greenhouse experiment was performed to evaluate macronutrients and boron deficiencies on vitexin bioproduction by sweet passion fruit leaves. Sand irrigated with nutrient solution was used as substrate in a complete randomized design, with eight treatments: 1) complete, 2) nitrogen-deficient(-N), 3) phosphorus-deficient(-P), 4) potassium ...

The Aqueous Extracts of Passiflora alata and Passiflora edulis Reduce Anxiety-Related Behaviors Without Affecting Memory Process in Rats

Journal of Medicinal Food, 2008
Several species of Passiflora have been employed widely as a folk medicine because of sedative and tranquillizer activities. In this study, we evaluate the effects on anxiety and memory process of two popularly used Passiflora species. To this aim, male Wistar rats (weighing 250-300 g) were intraperitoneally injected with the aqueous extract of ...
