The species of Passiflora are widely used in folk medicine as mild sedatives and tranquilizers. P. alata and P. quadrangularis are distributed throughout South America, with widespread occurrence in Brazil and Colombia. Due to the difficulty in making a botanical distinction between these species, especially in the absence of flowers and fruits, the ...

Abstract Passiflora alata is one of the commercialized species of the passion vines, grown for its edible fruits. It is found in South America, mainly Paraguay, Argentina, Peru and Brazil. The development of a set of microsatellite markers was proposed to provide tools for analysing both genetic structure of wild populations and the reproductive system

Passiflora alata Curtis is used in Brazilian folk medicine and also by pharmaceutical industry due to its tranquilizing properties. In this work, the central activity of an aqueous (AQ) and an hydroethanolic (HE) leaves extracts were evaluated in elevated plus maze, barbiturate sleeping time, open field and [3H]flunitrazepam binding assays.
