The use of antibodies in the prophylaxis and treatment of infections

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2012
The use of antibodies to provide passive immunity to infections has a long history. Although the coming of antibiotics greatly reduced its use for bacterial infections, it is still widely used for a variety of purposes which are reviewed here. The use of

Pregnancy has a minimal impact on the acute transcriptional signature to vaccination. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Vaccination in pregnancy is an effective tool to protect both the mother and infant; vaccines against influenza, pertussis and tetanus are currently recommended.

Human Milk Antibodies after BNT162b2 Vaccination Exhibit Reduced Binding against SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern

open access: yesVaccines, 2022
SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody responses are engendered in human milk after BNT162b2 vaccination. However, the emergence of variants of concern (VOCs) raises concerns about the specificity of and potential cross-protection mediated by milk antibody ...

A circuit modeling technique for the ISO 7637-3 capacitive coupling clamp test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we propose a transmission-line modeling technique for the ISO 7637-3 capacitive coupling clamp (CCC) test. Besides modeling the test bench, special attention is devoted to the CCC itself, for which an equivalent circuit is constructed ...

Field evaluation of passive transfer in Holstein calves: Serum brix refractometry versus radial Immunodiffusion and associations with early body weight change

open access: yesRevista Científica
This study compared the performance of the Brix refractometer and radial immunodiffusion for assessing passive transfer immunity in Holstein calves and examined the relationship between passive transfer immunity and early body weight gain during the ...

Membrane vesicles derived from Bordetella bronchiseptica: Active constituent of a new vaccine against infections caused by this pathogen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Bordetella bronchiseptica, a Gram-negative bacterium, causes chronic respiratory tract infections in a wide variety of mammalian hosts, including humans (albeit rarely).

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
