Development of soil moisture indices from differences in water absorption between shortwave-infrared bands

Isprs Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, 2019
Soil moisture (SM) controls the exchange of water and heat energy between the land surface and the atmosphere through evaporation and plant transpiration, and timely and accurate estimates of soil moisture are crucial for many studies.

RIS-Based Code Index Modulation for Joint Active/Passive Transmission

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology
In this paper, we employ a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) to spread incident signals and develop RIS-based code index modulation (CIM) for joint active/passive transmission (JAPT).

A Novel Training Approach for Parametric Modeling of Microwave Passive Components Using Padé via Lanczos and EM Sensitivities

IEEE transactions on microwave theory and techniques, 2020
This article proposes a novel training approach for parametric modeling of microwave passive components with respect to changes in geometrical parameters using matrix Padé via Lanczos (MPVL) and electromagnetic (EM) sensitivities.

Including the effect of solar radiation in dynamic indoor thermal comfort indices

, 2021
The use of solar gains is one of the most effective passive strategies to reduce the heating energy demand of buildings. However, solar radiation not only affects the thermal balance of the building, but also that of the occupants.

Asymptotic stabilization of nonlinear systems using passivity indices

2016 American Control Conference (ACC), 2016
This work presents a new controller design technique for asymptotic stabilization of nonlinear systems using passivity indices. The aforementioned indices measure the level of passivity of a system and we address the question of how to use this information to design a dynamic output feedback controller that stabilizes the closed-loop at a given ...

Feedback control of nonlinear systems using passivity indices

2015 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA), 2015
This paper presents a new controller design framework for nonlinear feedback systems using passivity indices. These indices measure the level of passivity of a system and can be used to set lower bounds to the parameters of a stabilizing controller.

Indicators of Active and Passive Coping in Myocardial Infarction Victims

Journal of Gerontology, 1992
This retrospective study attempted to explore life events, personality factors, subjective perceptions, and coping reactions in myocardial infarction (MI) patients. Seventy-seven MI survivors participated in the study. The PERI Life Events Scale, the 16 PF personality inventory, and a questionnaire covering self-ratings of subjective perception and ...

Critical review and quantitative evaluation of indoor thermal comfort indices and models incorporating solar radiation effects

, 2020
The solar incidence on an indoor environment and its occupants has significant impacts on indoor thermal comfort; it can bring favorable passive solar heating or can result in undesired overheating (even in winter).

Passivity indices and passivation of systems with application to systems with input/output delay

53rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2014
A passivation method to passivate a given system by using an input-output transformation matrix is introduced. This matrix generalizes the commonly used methods of series, feedback and feedforward interconnections to passivate a system. Through an appropriate design of this matrix, positive passivity levels can be guaranteed for the system.

A novel high-performance passive non-traditional inerter-based dynamic vibration absorber

, 2020
This paper presents the performance evaluation for a novel high-performance nontraditional inerter-based dynamic vibration absorber called NIDVA-C4. For the easy physical parameter tuning for the proposed device, the Extended Fixed-Points Technique (EFPT)
