Smooth-AP: Smoothing the Path Towards Large-Scale Image Retrieval [PDF]
Optimising a ranking-based metric, such as Average Precision (AP), is notoriously challenging due to the fact that it is non-differentiable, and hence cannot be optimised directly using gradient-descent methods. To this end, we introduce an objective that optimises instead a smoothed approximation of AP, coined Smooth-AP.

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Improved A*-based Path Planning for Mining Inspection Robots
[Purposes] Aiming at the unstructured environment and narrow local passable area of coal mine underground, and the problems of long search time, multiple search nodes, many redundant nodes in the path, and poor road strength smoothness in the traditional

A Global Trajectory Planning Framework Based on Minimizing the Risk Index
At present, autonomous mobile robots are widely used in industrial and commercial fields. However, although the global path searched by existing mobile robot path planning methods has no collision with obstacles, there is a problem in that the path is ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Smooth UAV Path Planning Based on Composite-Energy-Minimizing Bézier Curves
Path smoothing is an important part of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) path planning, because the smoothness of the planned path is related to the flight safety and stability of UAVs.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Smoothing of Piecewise Linear Paths [PDF]
We present an anytime-capable fast deterministic greedy algorithm for smoothing piecewise linear paths consisting of connected linear segments. With this method, path points with only a small influence on path geometry (i.e. aligned or nearly aligned points) are successively removed.
