Mapping road network communities for guiding disease surveillance and control strategies
Human mobility is increasing in its volume, speed and reach, leading to the movement and introduction of pathogens through infected travelers. An understanding of how areas are connected, the strength of these connections and how this translates into ...

Influence of high gas production during thermophilic anaerobic digestion in pilot-scale and lab-scale reactors on survival of the thermotolerant pathogens Clostridium perfringens and Campylobacter jejuni in piggery wastewater [PDF]
Safe reuse of animal wastes to capture energy and nutrients, through anaerobic digestion processes, is becoming an increasingly desirable solution to environmental pollution.

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Detection of genetic diversity among Indian strains of _Xanthomonas campestris_ pv. _mangiferaeindicae_ using PCR-RAPD [PDF]
The randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique was used to investigate the genetic diversity in 6 strains of _Xanthomonas campestris_ pv. _mangiferaeindicae_ (_Xcmi_), the causal pathogen of mango bacterial canker disease (MBCD).

Rapid Detection of Pathogens [PDF]
Pathogen identification is a crucial first defense against bioterrorism. A major emphasis of our national biodefense strategy is to establish fast, accurate and sensitive assays for diagnosis of infectious diseases agents. Such assays will ensure early and appropriate treatment of infected patients.

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.
