Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The impact of pathogen reduction on ABO isoagglutinin titers in apheresis platelets
Background: Platelet transfusions are a cornerstone of modern medical care, used across various clinical contexts. Ensuring the compatibility of blood products, especially regarding ABO isoagglutinins, is critical to minimize adverse reactions.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Pathogen reduction of monkeypox virus in plasma and whole blood using riboflavin and UV light.
BackgroundMonkeypox virus has recently emerged from endemic foci in Africa and, since October 20, 2022, more than 73,000 human infections have been reported by the CDC from over 100 countries that historically have not reported monkeypox cases.

Killing them softly:managing pathogen polymorphism and virulence in spatially variable environments [PDF]
Understanding why pathogen populations are genetically variable is vital because genetic variation fuels evolution, which often hampers disease control efforts.

Pathogen reduction across different vaccine infectious periods.
Level of pathogen reduction achieved across various times of vaccination with different vaccine recovery rates indicated by the different colors. The vaccine recovery rate controls the length of time that the vaccine can disseminate to other individuals ...
