Interpretable Housing for Freedom of the Body: The Next Generation of Flexible Homes

open access: yes, 2013
If we have gone through the first generation of housing design that pursued functional optimization, ergonomics, and circulation efficiency during the last century, now we are living in the second generation where more advanced goals, such as universal ...

Structural Pattern Recognition and Pitch Estimation of Aggregated Dot Patterns by Using of Constraints in Parametric Space

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Industry Applications, 2011
In this paper, we refer to images obtained by mapping dots observed during defect inspections as secondary images. We propose a method of extracting information for specifying the causes of distinctive structural patterns that appear in the secondary images.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Video Analysis Based on Volumetric Event Detection

open access: yes, 2010
During the past decade, the feature extraction and the knowledge acquisition based on video analysis have been extensively researched and tested on many applications such as CCTV data analysis, large-scale public event control, and other daily security ...

A new twist on heterotic string compactifications

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
A rich pattern of gauge symmetries is found in the moduli space of heterotic string toroidal compactifications, at fixed points of the T-duality transformations. We analyze this pattern for generic tori, and scrutinize in full detail compactifications on

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Shock induced fluid structure interaction on a flexible wall in supersonic turbulent flow

open access: yes, 2011
A detailed knowledge of the flow structure interaction in supersonic flows is important for the design of future space transportation systems. Therefore this work was devoted to the investigation of the shock wave boundary layer interaction on an ...
