Glucocorticoids and NK cell PD-1

Nature Immunology, 2018
Immune responses have the potential to induce life-threatening conditions. A novel multi-system pathway in which neuroendocrine signaling induces expression of the checkpoint receptor PD-1 on NK cells is an important mechanism for protection against cytokine-mediated disease during viral infection.

Tumor Immunotherapy Directed at PD-1

New England Journal of Medicine, 2012
The treatment of cancer by harnessing immune responses has long been pursued. Efforts to turn on the immune system against cancers with inactivated tumor vaccines or intratumor injections of bacterial products to induce local inflammation and recruit an antitumor immune response have led to anecdotal successes. Increasing knowledge about how the immune

Blocking PD-1 in cancer immunotherapy

Blood, 2009
Abstract The PD-1 pathway is emerging as an important tumor-evasion mechanism. In this issue of Blood, 3 independent groups report that PD-1 is highly expressed by tumor-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes in hematologic and nonhematologic malignancies, and is associated with impaired T-cell function.
