Myocardial inflammation is associated with impaired mitochondrial oxidative capacity in ischaemic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1246-1255, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Myocardial inflammation and impaired mitochondrial oxidative capacity are hallmarks of heart failure (HF) pathophysiology. The extent of myocardial inflammation in patients suffering from ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and its association with mitochondrial energy metabolism are unknown.

Adaptive Uncertainty-Penalized Model Selection for Data-Driven PDE Discovery

open access: yesIEEE Access
We propose a new parameter-adaptive uncertainty-penalized Bayesian information criterion (UBIC) to discover the stable governing partial differential equation (PDE) composed of a few important terms.

Cilostazol in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction—The CLIP‐HFpEF trial

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1437-1446, April 2025.
• Cilostazol is an oral PDE‐3 inhibitor that may have advantageous effects in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). • Cilostazol significantly improved short‐term heart failure‐related health status scores (KCCQ‐12) and NT‐proBNP levels when compared to placebo.

The effect of selective phosphodiesterase inhibitors, alone and in combination, on a murine model of allergic asthma

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2004
Background The anti-inflammatory effects of the selective phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors cilostazol (PDE 3), RO 20-1724 (PDE 4) and sildenafil (PDE 5) were examined in a murine model of allergic asthma.

Inherited metabolic epilepsies–established diseases, new approaches

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Inherited metabolic epilepsies (IMEs) represent the inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) in which epilepsy is a prevailing component, often determining other neurodevelopmental outcomes associated with the disorder. The different metabolic pathways affected by individual IMEs are the basis of their rarity and heterogeneity.

Precision therapies for genetic epilepsies in 2025: Promises and pitfalls

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract By targeting the underlying etiology, precision therapies offer an exciting paradigm shift to improve the stagnant outcomes of drug‐resistant epilepsies, including developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. Unlike conventional antiseizure medications (ASMs) which only treat the symptoms (seizures) but have no effect on the underlying ...

Impact of Uncertain Parameters on Navier–Stokes Equations With Heat Transfer via Polynomial Chaos Expansion

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
This study investigates the impact of uncertain parameters on Navier–Stokes equations coupled with heat transfer using the Intrusive Polynomial Chaos Method (IPCM). Sensitivity equations are formulated for key input parameters, such as viscosity and thermal diffusivity, and solved numerically using the Finite Element‐Volume method.

The role of phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors in treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia

open access: yesUrology Research and Practice, 2019
Phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors are approved as the first line of therapy for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, different studies have been performed to study the use of these agents in other areas of urology.

Local Polynomial Regression and Filtering for a Versatile Mesh‐Free PDE Solver

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
A high‐order, mesh‐free finite difference method for solving differential equations is presented. Both derivative approximation and scheme stabilisation is carried out by parametric or non‐parametric local polynomial regression, making the resulting numerical method accurate, simple and versatile. Numerous numerical benchmark tests are investigated for
