Relation between Barrier Conductance and Coulomb Blockade Peak Splitting for Tunnel-Coupled Quantum Dots

open access: yes, 1995
We study the relation between the barrier conductance and the Coulomb blockade peak splitting for two electrostatically equivalent dots connected by tunneling channels with bandwidths much larger than the dot charging energies.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Multi-Peak Solutions for Coupled Nonlinear Schrödinger Systems in Low Dimensions

open access: yesApplied Mathematics & Optimization, 2023
AbstractIn this paper, we construct the solutions to the following nonlinear Schrödinger system $$\begin{aligned} {\left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -\epsilon ^{2}\Delta u+P(x)u= \mu _{1} u^{p}+\beta u^{\frac{p-1}{2}}v^{\frac{p+1}{2}} \ \ \ \text {in} \ \ \mathbb {R}^{N},\\ -\epsilon ^{2}\Delta v+Q(x)v= \mu _{2} v^{p}+\beta u^{\frac{p+1}{2}}v^{\frac{p-1}{2}} \

Numerical optimization of Wells turbine for wave energy extraction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2017
The present work focuses multi-objective optimization of blade sweep for a Wells turbine. The blade-sweep parameters at the mid and the tip sections are selected as design variables.

The Physicomechanical Deterioration Characteristics and Mesoscopic Damage Analysis of Sandstone under Acidic Environment

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
The physicomechanical deterioration characteristics of sandstone subjected to H2SO4, HCl, and H2O solutions of different pH values are studied by the method of long-term accelerated immersion.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Hoffmann-Infeld Black Hole Solutions in Lovelock Gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Five-dimensional black holes are studied in Lovelock gravity coupled to Hoffmann-Infeld non-linear electrodynamics. It is shown that some of these solutions present a double peak behavior of the temperature as a function of the horizon radius.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Peaked and Smooth Solitons for K*(4,1) Equation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
This paper is contributed to explore all possible single peak solutions for the K*(4,1) equation ut=uxu2+2α(uuxxx+2uxuxx). Our procedure shows that the K*(4,1) equation either has peakon, cuspon, and smooth soliton solutions when sitting on a nonzero ...
