Sixth International Conference on Networking (ICN'07), 2007
Peer to peer is an important way for files sharing. In existing P2P systems, users need to query and retrieve files, and have to know some knowledge, such as file names, keywords or hash values, about those files before searching. However, files on the Internet are not only abundant but also mutable.

One of the differences between typical peer-to-peer (P2P) and client-server systems is the existence of user accounts. While many P2P applications, like public file sharing, are anonymous, more complex services such as decentralized online social networks require user authentication.

This paper proposes to utilize algorithms from the probabilistic graphical models domain for Peer-to-Peer rating of data items and for computing "social influence" of nodes in a Peer-to-peer social network. We evaluate the practicality of our approach using large- scale simulations over a MSN Live Messenger subgraph consisting of about a million nodes.
