The midgut chymotrypsins of shrimps (Penaeus monodon, Penaeus japonicus and Penaeus penicillatus)
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1991The midgut chymotrypsins (EC 3.4.4.5) of three species of shrimps, Penaeus monodon, Penaeus japonicus and Penaeus penicillatus were purified and studied in detail to clarify previous ambiguity in their identification. In each of the species there are two major forms of chymotrypsin, both single-chained with three disulfide bonds.

Carbohydrate digestion in Penaeus monodon
Marine Biology, 1994Using crude homogenates from the digestive system of pond-cultured Penaeus monodon, carbohydrase activity was demonstrated toward a wide variety of substrates differing in sources and complexity. The largest concentration of this activity was found to be localised within the midgut gland.

Thiamin Requirement of Juvenile Shrimp (Penaeus monodon)
The Journal of Nutrition, 1991In a 9-wk feeding trial, juvenile shrimp (Penaeus monodon) were fed semipurified diets containing seven levels (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 160 and 320 mg/kg diet) of supplemental thiamin hydrochloride. Interspecific hybridization of the tiger prawns Penaeus monodon and Penaeus esculentus
Aquaculture, 1995Interspecies hybrids were produced by artificial insemination of Penaeus monodon females with P. esculentus males. Successful spawnings were achieved from two of the 13 matings attempted. Hatch rates were low (< 4%) but 85% of the vigorous larvae produced survived to PL1.

A suctorean parasite of Penaeus monodon larvae
1977A pathogenic suctorean, identified as Ephelota gemmipara was observed in P. monodon larvae spawned and reared in tanks. Commonly found to inhabit hydroid colonies, E. gemmipara has a stalked body with two types of tentacles, the sucking and piercing types, and was observed to reproduce by multiple exogenous budding.
