The midgut chymotrypsins of shrimps (Penaeus monodon, Penaeus japonicus and Penaeus penicillatus)

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1991
The midgut chymotrypsins (EC 3.4.4.5) of three species of shrimps, Penaeus monodon, Penaeus japonicus and Penaeus penicillatus were purified and studied in detail to clarify previous ambiguity in their identification. In each of the species there are two major forms of chymotrypsin, both single-chained with three disulfide bonds.

Carbohydrate digestion in Penaeus monodon

Marine Biology, 1994
Using crude homogenates from the digestive system of pond-cultured Penaeus monodon, carbohydrase activity was demonstrated toward a wide variety of substrates differing in sources and complexity. The largest concentration of this activity was found to be localised within the midgut gland.

Thiamin Requirement of Juvenile Shrimp (Penaeus monodon)

The Journal of Nutrition, 1991
In a 9-wk feeding trial, juvenile shrimp (Penaeus monodon) were fed semipurified diets containing seven levels (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 160 and 320 mg/kg diet) of supplemental thiamin hydrochloride. The dietary thiamin level required for optimal growth in P. monodon was found to be approximately 14 mg/kg diet based on hemolymph (blood) thiamin analysis. The

Reproductive quality of male Penaeus monodon

Aquaculture, 1993
Abstract The reproductive performance of unilaterally eyestalk-ablated wild male Penaeus monodon was compared with that of unablated prawns (controls). After being stocked for 6 weeks in flow-through tanks, ablated males showed significantly higher sperm count (153.6 × 10 6 vs.77.5 × 10 6 ), less abnormal sperm (45.5% vs 73.3%), larger sperm head ...

Colourimetric PCR-based detection of monodon baculovirus in whole Penaeus monodon postlarvae

Journal of Virological Methods, 1998
The development of a nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay is described to detect low concentrations of monodon baculovirus (MBV) DNA from total Penaeus monodon postlarval DNA. A modified DNA extraction procedure was also developed to circumvent problems associated with co-purification of PCR inhibitors in total DNA extracted from whole ...
