Dynamic control of carbon‐ion radiation dose distribution amid respiratory motion challenges: A review of prediction research using geant4 and deep learning physics‐constrained models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract Background Carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) offers superior dose conformity and biological effectiveness; however, its precision is highly sensitive to respiratory motion, leading to dose uncertainty and interplay effects that compromise treatment accuracy.

Experimental fluence‐modulated proton computed tomography by pencil beam scanning [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Physics, 2018
PurposeThis experimental study is aimed at demonstrating, using a simple cylindrical water phantom, the feasibility of fluence‐modulated proton computed tomography (FMpCT) by pencil beam scanning (PBS) proton computed tomography (pCT).MethodsThe phase II pCT prototype of the Loma Linda U. and U. C. Santa Cruz was operated using the PBS beam line of the

Proton microbeam radiotherapy with scanned pencil-beams – Monte Carlo simulations [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica Medica, 2015
Irradiation, delivered by a synchrotron facility, using a set of highly collimated, narrow and parallel photon beams spaced by 1 mm or less, has been termed Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT). The tolerance of healthy tissue after MRT was found to be better than after standard broad X-ray beams, together with a more pronounced response of malignant ...

In Vivo 31P‐MRS of the Human Orthotopic Kidney at 3 Tesla

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 11, November 2026.
31P‐MRS of healthy human orthotopic kidneys at 3T yielded improved spectral quality within a clinically feasible scan time. The resulting summed spectrum characterizes normal renal phosphorus metabolism and may serve as a reference for detecting metabolic alterations associated with kidney disease and transplantation.

SRS/SBRT commissioning process with a hybrid beam data model in new preconfigured CyberKnife system

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Background A new preconfigured CyberKnife system was introduced to improve the SRS/SBRT commissioning efficiency. The vendor provides a reference beam data set, termed “beam data model (BDM)”, and recommends its validation and combination with measurement data to develop a hybrid beam data model (h‐BDM).

Tradeoffs in the design of a spaceborne scanning pencil beam scatterometer: application to SeaWinds

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1997
SeaWinds is a spaceborne wind scatterometer to be flown on the second Japanese Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS-II) in 1999. An important international element of NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS), SeaWinds is an advanced follow-on to the NASA scatterometer (NSCAT) on the first ADEOS platform.

Cardio-respiratory-gated proton pencil beam scanning for cardiac ablation: workflow and end-to-end validation

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundStereotactic Arrhythmia Radiotherapy (STAR) offers a non-invasive alternative for ventricular tachycardia ablation, yet motion management remains a critical challenge. While respiratory gating is established, cardiac gating requires a dedicated

Dose comparison of proton beam therapy with and without a multileaf collimator in the treatment of multiple hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesPhysics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology
Background and purpose: Proton beam therapy (PBT) offers dosimetric advantages over conventional photon-based radiation therapy in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) because it more effectively spares normal liver tissue. This study investigated the
