Isoxazolyl Penicillins and Penicillinase

Nature, 1962
THE isoxazolyl series of penicillinase-resistant penicillins has been described by Doyle et al.1. Many members of this series are acid-stable, and considerably more active against staphylococci than methi-cillin. Three members of this series (BRL.1400 5-methyl-3-phenyl-4-isoxazolylpenicillin, BRL.

A Standard Penicillinase Preparation

Science, 1944
(1) Standardization of penicillinase has been made possible by the method for its assay. (2) A purified, dried and sterile penicillinase has been found to be a penicillin-inactivator superior to Clarase for the penicillin sterility test.

Experimental sensitization with penicillinase

Journal of Allergy, 1957
Abstract Thirty-six guinea pigs and nine rabbits were given five semiweekly injections of penicillinase. Some animals received pure penicillinase, whereas others received it in combination with human albumin and/or Freund's adjuvant. All of the animals became sensitive to penicillinase.

Kinetics of penicillinase activity

Experientia, 1957

A semi-synthetic penicillinase inactivator

Nature, 1979
MANY pathogenic bacteria secrete penicillinases (β-lactamases, EC 3.5.2.6) as a defence mechanism against β-lactam antibiotics1. Inhibitors of penicillinase are therefore of potential clinical importance, and interest in this area has been stimulated by the discovery of effective naturally occurring enzyme inactivators2–4.

IMMUNOLOGICAL STUDIES ON STAPHYLOCOCCAL PENICILLINASES

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1961
Antistaphylococcal penicillinase sera were prepared using cell-free staphylococcal penicillinase concentrates as antigens in rabbits. Antisera to a purified Bacillus cereus penicillinase preparation were also prepared. Neutralizing antibodies were demonstrated in the immune sera by a microbiological assay method and precipitating antibodies ...

Further Observations on Penicillinase

JAMA, 1961
THE APPLICATION of the enzyme penicillinase (Neutrapen) as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of penicillin reactions has been reassuring to the patient as well as the physician harassed by penicillin reactions. It has been previously demonstrated that parenteral injection of penicillinase in experimental animals and human subjects given penicillin ...

A Unit of Penicillinase

Nature, 1950
THE presence of the enzyme penicillinase in extracts of B. coli and other micro-organisms was first described by Abraham and Chain1. Later, a unit of penicillinase potency was proposed by McQuarrie, Liebmann, Kluener and Venosa2. Since that time several groups of investigators have studied this enzyme3–11 and defined their own relative units of ...
