Transformation in Penicillium chrysogenum
Gene, 1987An auxotrophic mutant of Penicillium chrysogenum with a DNA rearrangement that affects the trpC region has been transformed to the Trp+ phenotype by using a plasmid that contains the trifunctional wild-type gene. A frequency of 40-80 transformants per microgram of input DNA was usually achieved.

As taxonomic characters in Penicillium, morphology and profiles of secondary metabolites have proved to be consistent and reproducible, provided they are recorded in a standardized and systematic way. Techniques for standardising profiles of secondary metabolites include the use of griseofulvin and preferably other commercially available secondary ...

In vitro and in vivo tests were carried out to study the inhibitory effect of mixtures of sodium orthophenylphenate, methyl-1-(butyl-carbamoyl)-2-benzimidazole ('Benomyl') and sodium orthophenylphenate, 2-(4-thiazolil)-benzimidazole ('Thiabendazole') on growth of strains of Penicillium italicum and P.

Penicillium and Related Genera
1997Grouped in this chapter are genera which produce conidia in a structure termed a penicillus (Latin, little brush). A penicillus consists essentially of a well defined cluster of phialides or similar cells bearing small, single-celled, dry conidia in chains. The phialides are either attached to a stipe directly or through one or more stages of branching.
