Macrophyte Potential to Treat Leachate Contaminated with Wood Preservatives: Plant Tolerance and Bioaccumulation Capacity

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Pentachlorophenol and chromated copper arsenate (CCA) have been used worldwide as wood preservatives, but these compounds can toxify ecosystems when they leach into the soil and water.

Confirmation of oxidative dehalogenation of pentachlorophenol by a Flavobacterium pentachlorophenol hydroxylase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1992
Pentachlorophenol (PCP) hydroxylase purified from Flavobacterium sp. strain ATCC 39723 converted PCP or 2,3,5,6-tetrachlorophenol to tetrachloro-p-hydroquinone (TeCH) with the co-consumption of O2 and NADPH. The purified enzyme incorporated 18O from 18O2 but not from H218O into the reaction end product TeCH.

Biomass-supported catalysts on Desulfovibrio desulfuricans and Rhodobacter sphaeroides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A Rhodobacter sphaeroides-supported dried, ground palladium catalyst (‘‘Rs-Pd(0)’’) was compared with a Desulfovibrio desulfuricans-supported catalyst (‘‘Dd-Pd(0)’’)and with unsupported palladium metal particles made by reduction under H2 (‘‘Chem-Pd(0)’’)

Fluorescent Chitosan Hydrogels Based on Biomass‐Derived Carbon Dots for Toxic Aromatic Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2025.
Carbon dots made from food waste via a microwave–ultrasound method show strong, pH‐stable fluorescence. Thermal pretreatment enhances their optical properties. Incorporated into chitosan hydrogels, these dots form reusable sensors for detecting aromatic pollutants in water.

Short Communication: Effects of temperature and chemical formulation on the acute toxicity of pentachlorophenol to Simocephalus vetulus (Schoedler, 1858) (Crustacea: Cladocera) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The influence of temperature on the acute toxicity of a technical formulation (86%) and pure formulation (99%) of pentachlorophenol (PCP) to less than 24-h-old Simocephalus vetulus neonates was determined with 48-h static toxicity tests.

Nanocomposites for Water Treatment, Photocatalysis, and Challenges: A Systematic Review

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2025.
A nanocomposite synthesized via sol‐gel, chemical vapor deposition, or in‐situ polymerization effectively removes dyes and heavy metals from water, yielding purified water. Additionally, it exhibits high photocatalytic degradation efficiency under visible or UV light.

Exploration of Thioxolone Derivatives: Synthesis, Docking Studies, and Biological Evaluation for Antibacterial and Antidiabetic Activities

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 10, Issue 38, October 13, 2025.
Thioxolone derivatives are evaluated for antibacterial and anti‐diabetic potential. Compounds T‐11, T‐12, and T‐13 exhibit potent antibacterial activity against E. coli, B. cereus, and S. aureus, with low MIC values. T‐11 and T‐3 show stronger α‐glucosidase inhibition than acarbose, while molecular docking reveals T‐13 as the strongest binder ...
