Toward Sustainability: Intensification of Light‐Driven Whole Cell Biocatalysis

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 8, April 2026.
Whole‐cell, light‐driven biotransformations in photoautotrophic microorganisms offer the potential for higher atom economy by directly harnessing reducing equivalents and oxygen generated through natural photosynthesis. Current advances include the development of strains with improved growth rates and reactor designs that mitigate self‐shading ...

Crystallization‐Based Purification of Xylitol Produced by Biotechnological Route

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 49, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study investigated xylitol purification from fermentation broths using various crystallization techniques, including cooling, melt crystallization, and chromatographic pretreatment. Combining chromatographic separation with cooling crystallization achieved >99% xylitol purity, highlighting its potential for efficient industrial applications ...

Integrated and closed‐loop biorefinery strategies for efficient waste valorization and biofuel production

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 4, Page 1656-1676, April 2026.
Abstract Advancements in biofuel production technologies are essential for reducing global dependence on fossil fuels and addressing their overexploitation. Many valuable components of biomass, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, remain underused in traditional biorefineries, which typically rely on a single feedstock to produce a primary ...

Optimised Sample Preparation for Metabolic Analysis of Cell Cultures Using DESI‐MS

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 4, April 2026.
Cell pellets are washed once with a 1:1 PBS/AA mixed solution for desalting and pipetted directly onto a reversed‐phase TLC slide as discrete spots and then analysed by desorption electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry imaging (DESI‐MSI). The same slide can be re‐measured for different mass ranges/acquisition modes, enabling comprehensive targeted ...

Different Transcriptional Responses to Developmental Versus Short‐Term Acclimation Temperatures in Pieris rapae

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Transcriptomic data indicates that gene expression responses underlying developmental thermal plasticity differ from those of short‐term acclimation temperature in the butterfly Pieris rapae. We also identify a small subset of genes for which expression levels depend on the interaction of developmental temperature and short‐term acclimation temperature.

Gill Adaptation of the Hong Kong Catfish (Clarias fuscus) to Chronic Heat Stress: Tissue Remodeling, Enhanced Antioxidant Defense and Immune Metabolism Regulation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Continuous high‐temperature culture altered the structure of gill tissue, enhanced antioxidant capacity, and promoted apoptosis C. fuscus. In response, the organism mitigates extensive apoptosis and strengthens its repair capacity by regulating immune and energy metabolism pathways.
