Estimated metabolizable energy yields of perennial and annual grass swards compared with those of spring barley and oat

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
The dry matter yields of cultivar trials (from 1976 to 1998 at 15 sites in Finland) of perennial grass sward (meadow fescue (Festuca pratensis) cv. Boris), annual grass sward (Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), cv. Barmultra and Mitos), spring barley

Seed lipid profiles of perennial ryegrass: Global patterns and differentiation of ryegrass cultivars and Epichloë endophytes

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Seed lipid profiles from three ryegrass cultivars infected with AR501 show distinct changes in the medium‐chain diacylglycerols, triacylglycerols and sphingolipids. The differential peal LN745.5052_5.78 can be identified as PG 16:0_18:2 with the supporting ms2 fragmentation spectrum. Abstract Background Forage perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) has

Establishment of perennial forages intercropped with soybean for integrated crop-livestock systems [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2017
: The objective of this work was to evaluate soybean (Glycine max) grain yield and the establishment of perennial intercropped forages. Soybean was evaluated in sole crop and intercropped with the following forages: Megathyrsus maximus, Aruana and BRS ...

The effect of awns on seed yield and germination characteristics in Elymus nutans Griseb.

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
The effect of awns on seed yield. Three‐year field trials demonstrated that awns significantly regulate seed yield components and germination characteristics of Elymus nutans Griseb, laying a theoretical foundation for the breeding of high‐yielding forage varieties and seed production.

Coating Kernza® Seeds with Hydrophilic Polymers and Mycorrhizal Inoculants Affects Seedling Emergence and Growth in Drought

open access: yesAgronomy
Perennial grains, such as Kernza® (Thinopyrum intermedium) show promise in their ability to produce grain crops while withstanding drought and temperature extremes. However, Kernza establishes slowly, particularly in dry soils.

Microbiome‐mediated plant‐soil feedbacks as a tool for resilient agriculture

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Translating plant‐soil feedbacks (PSFs) into reliable agricultural management requires shifting from input‐dependent practices toward endogenous, process‐driven crop resilience. To bridge this gap, we propose a predictive framework centered on three strategic interventions: engineering the crop holobiont, diversifying the soil habitat, and deploying ...

Age‐related changes in root dynamics of a novel perennial grain crop

open access: yesGrassland Research
Background Standing root biomass stocks are larger in the perennial grain intermediate wheatgrass (IWG; Thinopyrum intermedium [Host] Barkworth and Dewey) than annual spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).

The plant microbiome: From ecological foundations to precision microbial engineering for sustainable agriculture

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
From ecological principles to precision engineering of plant microbiomes for sustainable agriculture. The plant holobiont integrates diverse microbial niches (including rhizosphere, endosphere, phyllosphere, seed, and aerial‐root mucilagesphere), host genetics (namely M genes), and host metabolites. Furthermore, molecular dialogues, including rhizobial

Pollen Morphology of Crucianella L. (Rubiaceae) Based on Light and Scanning Electron Microscope Data and Implications for Taxonomy

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
This study provides the palynological analysis of 12 Crucianella L. taxa using LM and SEM. Variations in pollen size, aperture number, and exine ornamentation were identified as key traits, demonstrating their taxonomic value for distinguishing closely related species and subspecies within the genus. ABSTRACT Crucianella L.
