PERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN OF EARTH RETAINING STRUCTURES AND BUILDING CODES

open access: yes, 2012
The design of a geotechnical structure under seismic loading is frequently carried out by means of the pseudostatic approach, checking the system against any possible geotechnical and structural ultimate limit states.

How to Answer to the Challenges of Competencies Management in Collaborative Product Design? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Organised by: Cranfield UniversityCollaboration is an essential factor of the design activities performance. This collaboration occurs between actors suited with varied expertises, coming from various trades and thus building a real network around the ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Performance Based Abstraction of Biomimicry Design Principles using Prototyping

open access: yesDesigns, 2019
A key challenge faced by biomimicry practitioners is making the conceptual leap between biology and design, particularly regarding collaborating across these knowledge domains and developing and evaluating design principles abstracted from biology. While

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A performance-based generative design framework based on a design grammar for high-rise office towers during early design stage

open access: yesFrontiers of Architectural Research
In the past decade, the construction speed of high-rise office towers worldwide has exhibited explosive growth. The unique morphological characteristics of high-rise office towers result in higher shape factors and relatively larger thermal loads.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
