Mediating variables in the relationship between 2D: 4D digit ratio and sports achievement rank [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This study investigated the extent to which 2D: 4D digit ratio, mental rotation ability and the personality variables of social-potency, achievement, harm-avoidance and control are effective predictors of achievement rank in team sports and also whether ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

The effects of delay-to-reinforcement, response requirement and schedule duration on performance under fixed-ratio schedules

open access: yes, 2011
Experiment 1 examined the effects of delay-to-reinforcement on between-ratio pausing in multiple fixed-ratio 5 fixed-ratio 5 schedules. In one component the reinforcer was delivered immediately on completion of the ratio, and in the other there was a ...

Assessment of Overall and Module-Specific Performance Comparisons for Residential Grid-Tied Photovoltaic Systems in the Maldives

open access: yesEnergies
Global restrictions related to climate change and the increasing demand for electricity are accelerating the transition from conventional energy sources, such as oil, gas, and coal, to renewable options like wind, solar, and biomass.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

A lack of sexual dimorphism in width-to-height ratio in White European faces using 2D photographs, 3D scans, and anthropometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Facial width-to-height ratio has received a great deal of attention in recent research. Evidence from human skulls suggests that males have a larger relative facial width than females, and that this sexual dimorphism is an honest signal of masculinity,

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

The effects of delay to reinforcement and inter-trial interval on fixed-ratio schedule performance

open access: yes, 2013
A delay to reinforcement has been found in previous studies to influence the effectiveness of a reinforcer. As the delay duration increases, response rates decrease and post reinforcement pause durations increase.
