Flow‐Induced Vascular Remodeling on‐Chip: Implications for Anti‐VEGF Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flow‐induced vascular remodeling plays a critical role in network stabilization and function. Using a vasculature‐on‐chip system, this study reveals how physiological VEGF levels and flow affect vascular remodeling and provides insights into tumor vessel normalization.

Isolated lung perfusion

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2012
Isolated lung perfusion (ILP) has been historically used as a method to study basic lung physiologic concepts using animal models. More recently, ILP has been applied in lung transplantation and thoracic oncology. In lung transplantation, ILP has been used to assess physiological integrity of donor lungs after the organ is removed from the donor.

Tunable Thermoshrinkable Hydrogels for 4D Fabrication of Cell‐Seeded Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermoresponsive polymer with methacrylate groups for photo‐cross‐linking, based on polyethylene glycol, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate is synthetized to yield hydrogels that shrink upon temperature increase. The new polymer enables the fabrication of cell‐laden perfusable channels with diameters below 200 µm by combining ...

Ensemble Kalman Filters for reliability estimation in perfusion inference [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We consider the solution of inverse problems in dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging by means of Ensemble Kalman Filters. Our quantity of interest is blood perfusion, i.e. blood flow rates in tissue. While existing approaches to compute blood perfusion parameters for given time series of radiological measurements mainly rely on deterministic ...

Oxidized Carbon Nanoparticles Enhance Cellular Energetics With Application to Injured Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 8, March 25, 2025.
Oxidized carbon nanozymes (OCNs) that catalyze the dismutation of superoxide radical and oxidation of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to NAD+ promote glycolytic and mitochondrial energy metabolism under impaired conditions observed in traumatic brain injury with hemorrhage.

Pericyte‐Assisted Vascular Lumen Organization in a Novel Dynamic Human Blood‐Brain Barrier‐on‐Chip Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Organ‐on‐Chip (OoC) technology enables the precise modeling of the blood‐brain barrier (BBB). This study presents a microfluidic device that mimics brain microvessels, integrating co‐culture with pericytes and astrocytes under pulsatile flow. Results show that perivascular cells modulate endothelial morphology, promoting lumen formation and barrier ...

Limiting the gamble: Risk and predictability for renal replacement therapy in patients receiving mechanical circulatory support★

open access: yesThe Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology
Background: Patients receiving mechanical circulatory support (MCS) frequently require renal replacement therapy (RRT). Examining risk factors for requiring RRT in patients receiving MCS may allow improved understanding of these comorbidities and enhance

Normothermic Perfusion is Superior to Cold Perfusion in Porcine Ex Situ Lung Perfusion

open access: yesTransplantation Proceedings
Cold ex situ lung perfusion (ESLP) has demonstrated improved preservation in small animal ESLP compared to normothermic ESLP and cold static preservation. We hypothesized that cold negative pressure ventilation (NPV)-ESLP would improve graft function in a porcine transplantation model.Four perfusate temperatures were examined with 12 hours NPV-ESLP in ...
