The Optical Photometric Variability of Herbig Ae/Be Stars from TESS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We have carried out a photometric time domain study of 188 intermediate-mass young stars observed in Full Frame Image mode with the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) satellite over the first 3.3 yr of its mission. The majority of these targets

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Is Crater II Disrupting?

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Crater II (CraII) is a very intriguing low surface brightness and extended galaxy in the vicinity of our Galaxy. Motivated by its huge area and the number of RR Lyrae stars (RRLSs) detected near to its core, we performed a follow-up campaign to get deep ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

The optical gravitational lensing experiment. Variable stars in globular clusters. I. Fields 5139A-C in

open access: yes, 1996
Three fields covering the central part of the globular cluster ω Cen were surveyed in a search for variable stars. We present V-band light curves for 39 periodic variables: 24 SX Phe stars, 7 contact binaries, 5 detached or semi-detached binaries, and 3

Classifying Variable Stars with Gaia Color-Magnitude Diagrams

open access: yes, 2019
The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) is an 8.4 m telescope in Chile. It will observe ~37 billion objects in the night sky and, of these objects, more than 20 million will exhibit significant brightness variations, known as variable stars. Efficient

Heartbeat Stars Recognition Based on Recurrent Neural Networks: Method and Validation

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Since the variety of their light curve morphologies, the vast majority of the known heartbeat stars (HBSs) have been discovered by manual inspection. Machine learning, which has already been successfully applied to the classification of variable stars ...

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Periodic and Aperiodic Variability in the Molecular Cloud ρ Ophiuchus

open access: yes, 2014
Presented are the results of a near-IR photometric survey of 1678 stars in the direction of the ρ Ophiuchus (ρ Oph) star forming region using data from the 2MASS Calibration Database.

Variable X-Ray Emission of the Planet Hosting T Tauri Star CI Tau

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We report results of Chandra X-ray observations of CI Tau, a young magnetically active classical T Tauri star for which previous studies have reported periodic variability attributed to a massive planet in a short-period orbit.
