A Mass Transferring Brown Dwarf Binary on a 57 Minute Orbit

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Mass transfer in stellar binaries has been well studied in most stellar mass ranges, with the notable exception of ultracool stars and substellar brown dwarfs.

M33 Cepheids from CFHT/MegaCam Survey

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2022
In this paper we analyze Sloan g, r, i archival imaging data of M33 taken by Hartman et al. using MegaCam at the Canada–France–Hawaii Telescope. To determine the distance to the M33 galaxy, we performed several analytical steps to identify its Cepheid ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Constraining RRc candidates using SDSS colours [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The light variations of first-overtone RR Lyrae stars and contact eclipsing binaries can be difficult to distinguish. The Catalina Periodic Variable Star catalog contains several misclassified objects, despite the classification efforts by Drake et al ...

Period doubling and Blazhko modulation in BL Herculis hydrodynamic models

open access: yes, 2012
We present the hydrodynamic BL Herculis-type models which display a long-term modulation of pulsation amplitudes and phases. The modulation is either strictly periodic or it is quasi-periodic, with the modulation period and modulation pattern varying ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multimode δ Sct stars from the Zwicky Transient Facility Survey

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We obtain the largest catalog of multimode δ Sct stars in the northern sky to date using the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) Data Release 20. The catalog includes 2254 objects, of which 2181 are new to our study.

Two new accreting, pulsating white dwarfs: SDSS J1457+51 and BW Sculptoris

open access: yes, 2011
We report the discovery of rapid periodic signals in the light curves of two cataclysmic variables with prominent white-dwarf components in their spectra, SDSS J1457+51 and BW Sculptoris. These stars therefore appear to be new members of the GW Lib class

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Minute-cadence Observations of the Galactic Plane with the Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST): Overview, Methodology, and Early Results

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
As the time-domain survey telescope of the highest survey power in the Northern Hemisphere currently, the Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) is scheduled to hourly/daily/semiweekly scan the Northern sky up to ∼23 mag in four optical ( ugri ) bands ...
