Preorthodontic corticotomy and simultaneous bone augmentation in the prevention of buccal alveolar dehiscences

open access: yesFogorvosi Szemle, 2020
Buccal orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) of the anterior teeth out of the osseous envelope of the alveolar process in case of front teeth crowding may be associated with a higher tendency for developing gingival recessions.

Impact of systemic diseases on periodontal remodeling: Mechanisms, mediators, and clinical relevance

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontal remodeling is a continuous, adaptive process essential for maintaining the structural and functional integrity of periodontal tissues. While external factors such as bacterial biofilm, excessive forces, and poor oral hygiene are recognized triggers of periodontal pathologies, they do not fully explain their persistent ...

Maxillary Orthopedic Expansion with Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Antecedentes: La discrepancia esquelética transversal del paciente adulto afecta la estabilidad oclusal y tiene repercusiones musculares, articulares y estéticas que dependen de su gravedad.

Clinical advances in corticotomy ⁃ assisted orthodontic treatments

open access: yes口腔疾病防治, 2018
Recently, corticotomy⁃assisted orthodontic treatments have gathered increasing clinical attention and have been applied more frequently. This technique evolved from traditional corticotomies on the buccal and palatal sides to buccal flapless ...

Understanding exosomes in regenerative dentistry

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Regenerative dentistry is shifting from cell‐based strategies to cell‐free biologics capable of orchestrating intricate tissue repair. Exosomes, nanosized extracellular vesicles carrying bioactive molecular payloads, have emerged as central modulators of intercellular communication.

Understanding extracellular vesicle biology, isolation, and characterization: The theory of EV‐erything

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, are nanoparticles increasingly recognized as key regulators of intercellular communication in both physiological and pathological aspects. Despite rapid progress, inconsistencies in nomenclature, isolation, and characterization continue to restrict translational advancement.

Shikonin promotes osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells by modulating the p38 MAPK/ETS transcription factor 1/cementum protein 1 axis in vitro

open access: yesJournal of Cell Communication and Signaling, Volume 20, Issue 3, September 2026.
Our study revealed that Shikonin enhanced osteogenic differentiation by promoting the ELK1/CEMP1 axis via the activation of p38 MAPK signaling in PDLSCs. This indicated that Shikonin may serve as a candidate drug, while the ELK1/CEMP1 axis may be identified as a valuable pathway for promoting the osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs.

Effects of Stromal Cell‐Derived Factor 1 on Osteoblast Activity During Orthodontic Tooth Movement

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research, Volume 12, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to clarify the relationship between stromal cell‑derived factor 1 (SDF‑1) and osteoblast‐related responses in periodontal ligament (PDL) during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) after tooth extraction, based on the hypothesis that local inhibition of SDF‑1/C‑X‑C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) signaling with the ...

Myeloid‐Derived Grancalcin Promotes Periodontal Inflammation and Pathological Bone Remodeling in Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 31, 4 June 2026.
Grancalcin (GCA), a myeloid‐derived protein, is enriched in gingival tissues of periodontitis patients and mouse models. Through interactions with CD44 and activation of MYH9, GCA promotes NF‐κB signaling and exacerbates periodontal inflammation and bone loss.

Alveolar Bone Width Before and After Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction: Periodontal accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO) has been proposed to decrease orthodontic treatment time as well as increase the width of the alveolar housing around roots of teeth in the direction of the intended tooth movement ...
