Attentional load and sensory competition in human vision: Modulation of fMRI responses by load fixation during task-irrelevant stimulation in the peripheral visual field. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Perceptual suppression of distractors may depend on both endogenous and exogenous factors, such as attentional load of the current task and sensory competition among simultaneous stimuli, respectively. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)

Von Bezold assimilation effect reverses in stereoscopic conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Lightness contrast and lightness assimilation are opposite phenomena: in contrast, grey targets appear darker when bordering bright surfaces (inducers) rather than dark ones; in assimilation, the opposite occurs.

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Typical CIDP, distal variant CIDP, and anti-MAG antibody neuropathy: An ultra-high frequency ultrasound comparison of nerve structure

open access: yesScientific Reports
To date, little is known about the usefulness of ultra-high frequency ultrasound (UHF-US, 50–70 MHz) in clinical practice for the diagnosis of dysimmune neuropathies.

Association between oxidative balance scores and peripheral artery disease in US adults: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundThe Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) quantifies the overall oxidative stress burden, with higher scores indicating greater antioxidant (relative to prooxidant) activity.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

The Effect of Phase Change Material on Recovery of Neuromuscular Function Following Competitive Soccer Match-Play

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Aim: Cryotherapy is commonly implemented following soccer match-play in an attempt to accelerate the natural time-course of recovery, but the effect of this intervention on neuromuscular function is unknown.

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

Disseminated Intracranial and Spinal Neurenteric Cysts: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Neurological Medicine
Neurenteric cysts (NECs) are rare congenital, benign lesions of the central nervous system (CNS), predominantly located within the spinal cord. However, they may also occur less frequently within the brainstem, fourth ventricle, or cerebellopontine angle
