Health-related quality of life in patients with peripheral nerve tumors: results from the German multicentric Peripheral Nerve Tumor Registry

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
ObjectivePeripheral nerve tumors (PNTs) are rare diseases. So far, no multicenter data on diagnostics, the efficacy of treatment, long-term outcomes, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) exist.

Development and training of a machine learning algorithm to identify patients at risk for recurrence following an arthroscopic Bankart repair (CLEARER): protocol for a retrospective, multicentre, cohort study

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2022
Introduction Shoulder instability is a common injury, with a reported incidence of 23.9 per 100 000 person-years. There is still an ongoing debate on the most effective treatment strategy.

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Intraoperative 3D Navigation‐Guided Resection of Enlarged Transverse Process for Treating Bertolotti Syndrome Unresponsive to Noninvasive Treatments: Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
Bertolotti syndrome is a lumbosacral anomaly that induces persistent lumbar pain. This case describes 3D navigation‐guided resection of an enlarged transverse process.

Biceps lasso loop and self-locking tenodesis alongside repair of rotator cuff tears: randomised controlled trial study protocol (BLAST 1)

open access: yesBMJ Open
Introduction Pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) frequently accompanies rotator cuff tears, with tenotomy and tenodesis often being used to address this pathology. While meta-analyses report comparable functional outcomes between these

Multipotent vascular stem cells contribute to neurovascular regeneration of peripheral nerve. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundNeurovascular unit restoration is crucial for nerve regeneration, especially in critical gaps of injured peripheral nerve. Multipotent vascular stem cells (MVSCs) harvested from an adult blood vessel are involved in vascular remodeling; however,

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

Using the main elbow flexion skin crease as an intraoperative parameter to determine the degree of exorotation needed for humeral derotational osteotomies in upper-type brachial plexus patients

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2018
Even though one of the surgical techniques most frequently used to correct external rotation deformity of the shoulder in brachial plexus patients is a humeral derotational osteotomy, few intraoperative parameters has yet been identified to determine the

Metformin promotes mitochondrial integrity through AMPK‐signaling in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Metformin mediates mitochondrial quality control in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) fibroblasts carrying mtDNA mutations. At therapeutic levels, metformin activates AMPK signaling to restore mitochondrial dynamics by promoting fusion and restraining fission, while preserving mitochondrial mass, enhancing autophagy/mitophagy and biogenesis ...
