Automatic Ultrasound Image Segmentation of Supraclavicular Nerve Using Dilated U-Net Deep Learning Architecture [PDF]
Automated object recognition in medical images can facilitate medical diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, we automatically segmented supraclavicular nerves in ultrasound images to assist in injecting peripheral nerve blocks. Nerve blocks are generally used for pain treatment after surgery, where ultrasound guidance is used to inject local ...

Multipotent vascular stem cells contribute to neurovascular regeneration of peripheral nerve. [PDF]
BackgroundNeurovascular unit restoration is crucial for nerve regeneration, especially in critical gaps of injured peripheral nerve. Multipotent vascular stem cells (MVSCs) harvested from an adult blood vessel are involved in vascular remodeling; however,

This study introduces a conductive nerve guidance conduit integrated with wireless electrical stimulation through alternating magnetic fields, which induces currents and creates a supportive microenvironment for nerve regeneration. In vivo studies show that this approach significantly enhanced myelin restoration, gastrocnemius muscle regeneration ...

Brachial plexus injury mimicking a spinal-cord injury. [PDF]
Objective High-energy impact to the head, neck, and shoulder can result in cervical spine as well as brachial plexus injuries. Because cervical spine injuries are more common, this tends to be the initial focus for management.

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.

End-to-side nerve suture – a technique to repair peripheral nerve injury [PDF]
End-to-side nerve suture (ETSNS) has until recently been extensively researched in the laboratory animal (rat and baboon). Lateral sprouting from an intact nerve into an attached nerve does occur, and functional recovery (sensory and motor) has been ...

Nerve Transfers in the Treatment of Peripheral Nerve Injuries [PDF]
Successful re-innervation of proximal limb peripheral nerve injuries is rare. Axons regenerate at ~1 mm/day, reaching hand muscles by 24 months, finding them atrophied and fibrosed.
