Peripheral nerve injury

Current Opinion in Neurology, 1994
Knowledge of the actions of conventional neurotrophic factors on peripheral neurons is accumulating rapidly, and growth factors that were discovered outside the nervous system have been found to have neurotrophic actions. The nature and initiation of proximal neuronal responses to nerve injury, the interactions of Schwann cells and growth cones, and ...

PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY AND PERIPHERAL NERVE INJURY

Urologic Clinics of North America, 1996
The peripheral nerves to the bladder can be altered by several disease processes. Voiding symptoms alone are not reliable in predicting the exact neurogenic bladder dysfunction. Urodynamic evaluation is crucial to optimize therapy and to rule out concomitant pathology.

Ultrasound of peripheral nerve injury

Pediatric Radiology, 2023
Nerve injury in children is important to recognize early given the greater chance for recovery. Both children and adults have better outcomes the sooner nerve injuries are recognized and repaired. Children have even better functional results after surgical repair, thought to be related to their neural plasticity.

Peripheral nerve injuries

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1974
Abstract In the hand we should, in general, favour primary repair, but this should only be done if the state of the wound and of the nerve allows, and if the necessary surgical skill is available and the technical surroundings favourable.

Iatrogenic injuries of peripheral nerves

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1991
In this study, we discuss 68 cases in which peripheral nerve trunks were inadvertently divided by surgeons. Most of these accidents occurred in the course of planned operations. Delay in diagnosis and in effecting repair was common. We list the nerves particularly at risk and the operations in which special care is needed. We recommend steps to secure

Iatrogenic peripheral nerve injuries

Neurology India, 2019
Iatrogenic peripheral nerve injury is a considerable social and economic concern and the majority of cases are preventable. Complications should be referred to, and dealt with promptly by experienced surgeons, to ensure the best chances for an optimal functional recovery. Their prevention should be emphasized.

Peripheral nerve injury

Clinical Techniques in Small Animal Practice, 1996
Inadequate peripheral nerve regeneration as a result of trauma contributes greatly to the morbidity of surgical patients. Animals admitted as an emergency often have concurrent orthopaedic injuries that impair mobility and may mask peripheral nerve dysfunction if a thorough neurological examination is not performed.

Iatropathic injuries of peripheral nerves

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2001
This is a retrospective study of 612 cases of iatropathic injury to peripheral nerves seen in one tertiary referral unit between 1991 and 1998. A total of 291 patients was subsequently operated on to explore the nerve lesion. The most common presenting symptom was pain, which often masked underlying loss of function.
