Impact of Environmental Microparticles on Insect Olfaction

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Terrestrial insects underpin key ecosystem services, including pollination, herbivory regulation, decomposition, nutrient cycling, and disease control. These functions depend on chemical communication that guides insects to food, mates, hosts, shelters, and oviposition sites while helping them avoid threats.

Grooming Behavior in American Cockroach is Affected by Novelty and Odor

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
The main features of grooming behavior are amazingly similar among arthropods and land vertebrates and serve the same needs. A particular pattern of cleaning movements in cockroaches shows cephalo-caudal progression.

LsFAMeT and LsJHAMT coordinate JH biosynthesis to regulate fecundity in Laodelphax striatellus

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The small brown planthopper (SBPH), Laodelphax striatellus, can trigger large‐scale outbreaks when encountering suitable habitats during migration due to their strong reproductive ability. This study investigated the role of juvenile hormone (JH) in regulating SBPH reproduction.

RNAi‐based functional genomics tools for the beet leafhopper using microinjection and nanoparticle‐based topical spray

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
• First demonstration of functional RNAi in the beet leafhopper, Neoaliturus tenellus, using both dsRNA microinjection and star polycation nanoparticle‐mediated topical spray delivery.•Microinjection achieved over 90% knockdown of Gus and Pum3, revealing gene‐specific fitness effects on survival and fecundity in beet leafhopper.•Nanoparticle‐mediated ...

Four new records of mites (Acari: Astigmata) phoretic on insects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

open access: yesJournal of the Saudi Society of Agricultural Sciences, 2011
A survey was carried out to investigate astigmatid mites associated with four unrelated insect species, belonging to four families. The four insect species, Musca domestica (Linnaeus, 1785) (Diptera: Muscidae), Labidura riparia (Pallas, 1773) (Dermaptera:

From biology to biotechnology: Host‐regulation factors from parasitoid wasps are a source of bioactive molecules with translational potential

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
Parasitoid wasps deploy maternal and embryonic factors to reprogramme host physiology. Venom, calyx fluid, polydnaviruses, teratocytes and larval secretions act in a coordinated, compartmentalised manner. Host‐regulation factors are promising sources of insecticidal, antimicrobial and bioinspired translational molecules.

Preferensi Kecoa Amerika Periplaneta americana (L.) (Blattaria: Blattidae) terhadap Berbagai Kombinasi Umpan

open access: yesJurnal Entomologi Indonesia, 2015
Currently, most cockroach control in urban environment relies on bait application. Aversion of some commercial bait by cockroach cause failure to control cockroach problems. Developing local bait can improve this situation.
