Differences in the Proteomic and Metabolomic Response of Quercus suber and Quercus variabilis During the Early Stages of Phytophthora cinnamomi Infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands is a cosmopolite pathogen of woody plants which during the last couple of centuries has spread all over the world from its center of origin in Southeast Asia. In contrast to Chinese cork oak (Quercus variabilis Blume) forests

Selenium in biology: Facts and medical perspectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Several decades after the discovery of setenium as an essential trace element in vertebrates approximately 20 eukaryotic and more than 15 prokaryotic selenoproteins containing the 21(st) proteinogenic amino acid, selenocysteine, have been identified ...

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

The role of total proteins, peroxidases and polyphenoloxidases in metabolismes of Juniperus spp. [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات جنگل و صنوبر ایران, 2000
In this study, role of total proteins, peroxidases and polyphenoloxidases in metabolisms of juniper were studied. For this purpose, seasonal alteration (quantitative and qualitative) of total proteins, peroxidases and polyphenoloxidases from branches ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Intraspecific differentiation of Reed Grass Calamagrostis arundinacea (L.) Roth (Poaceae) populations revealed by peroxidase allozymes

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
The genetic Variation of Reed Grass Calamagrostis arundinacea (L.) Roth was investigated in 25 populations in various geographic regions of Poland. A total of 907 individuals were sampled for electrophoretic analysis of peroxidase loci (11 allozymes ...

Glutathione peroxidases as oncotargets

open access: yesOncotarget, 2017
Oxidative stress is a disturbance in the equilibrium among free radicals, reactive oxygen species, and endogenous antioxidant defense mechanisms. Oxidative stress is a result of imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen and the biological system's ability to detoxify the reactive intermediates or to repair the resulting damage.

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

High post-anthesis temperature effects on 3 bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain 4 transcriptome during early grain-filling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: High post-anthesis (p.a) temperatures reduce mature grain weights in wheat and other cereals. However, the causes of this reduction are not entirely known.
