Hydrogen peroxide spraying alleviates drought stress in soybean plants

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2011
To ascertain the effect of exogenously applied hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on drought stress, we examined whether the spraying of soybean leaves with H2O2 would alleviate the symptoms of drought stress. Pre-treatment by spraying leaves with H2O2 delayed foliar wilting caused by drought stress compared to leaves sprayed with distilled water (DW ...

Peroxide-scavenging deficit underlies oligodendrocyte susceptibility to oxidative stress

Glia, 1998
Previous work showed that the susceptibility of oligodendroglial progenitors to oxidative stress is related to their low reduced-glutathione (GSH) and high iron contents. This suggests that these cells have a poor ability to scavenge peroxides. All peroxides are scavenged by glutathione peroxidase.

Lipid peroxidation and antioxidative vitamins under extreme endurance stress*

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1994
The aim of this study was to examine whether extreme endurance stress of trained athletes can influence lipid peroxidation and muscle enzymes. A randomized and placebo‐controlled study was carried out on 24 trained long‐distance runners who were substituted with α‐tocopherol (400 I.U.

Effect of heat stress on oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation and some stress parameters in broilers

British Poultry Science, 2003
1. This study was conducted to determine the effects of heat stress on fearfulness, leucocyte components, oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in two commercial broiler strains, Cobb (C) and Ross (R). 2. At 36 and 37 d of age birds were exposed to 38 +/- 1 degree C for 3 h.

Stress Relaxation during the Photoxidation of Peroxide Crosslinked Rubber

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1958
Abstract The chemical reactions involved in the thermal and photochemical aging of natural rubber vulcanizates are largely unknown. Experimental difficulties have precluded direct chemical investigation owing to the insolubility of the crosslinked networks and the small extent of reaction required for a great deterioration in physical ...

Activation of lipid peroxidation during painful emotional stress

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1979
Accumulation of primary and secondary lipid peroxidation (LPO) products were investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometry and fluorescence of Schiff bases in various tissues of Wistar rats subjected to painful emotional stress (PES). The quantity of LPO products was shown to increase under the influence of PES mainly in the heart, and also ...

Peroxidative stress and cerebral aging.

International journal of clinical pharmacology research, 1990
In order to test the hypothesis that cerebral nuclei showing age-related neuronal depletion would also show signs of vulnerability in their free radical scavenger systems and accumulation of the compounds resulting from peroxidation, the regional levels of a number of compounds were measured in mouse brains.

[Indices of oxidative stress. 2. Lipid peroxides].

Ukrains'kyi biokhimichnyi zhurnal (1999 ), 2007
Two methods of the determination of lipid peroxidation products have been compared which are based on Fe(II) oxidation by them at acid pH values in the presence of xylenol orange which binds Fe(III) have been compared. The first method uses cumene hydropeoxide as an internal standard.

[Lipid peroxidation and retinal damage in stress].

Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1982
It is shown that in rats exposed to emotional-pain stress, the electric activity of the retina is inhibited (the magnitude of electroretinogram waves is lowered). At the same time the products of lipid peroxidation accumulate and the content of the natural antioxidant alpha-tocopherol decreases in the retina.

[The inhibition stage of lipid peroxidation during stress].

Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1989
Stress is shown to induce at first the generalized inhibition of lipid peroxidation (LPO), and then the activation of LPO. In brain and blood serum of rats subjected to continuous footshock as well as to restraint stress LPO products decreased and superoxide scavenging activity increased during the initial period of stress, after 1 hour of footshock ...
