Novel Pituitary Ligands: Peroxisome Proliferator Activating Receptor-γ
Pituitary, 2003Pituitary tumors cause considerable morbidity due to local invasion, hypopituitarism, or hormone hypersecretion. In many cases, no suitable drug therapies are available, and surgical excision is currently the only effective treatment. We have recently demonstrated abundant expression of nuclear hormone receptor PPAR-gamma in human pituitary tumors of ...

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR gamma) and sepsis.
Archivum immunologiae et therapiae experimentalis, 2007This review describes the role of the nuclear hormone receptor PPARgamma as a double-edged sword in sepsis. On the one hand, PPARgamma inhibits pro-inflammatory gene expression, predominantly by scavenging transcription factors and their cofactors, thus preventing them from binding to their cognate binding sites in the promoters of target genes.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and the control of adipogenesis
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 1997The adipose cell is now known to play a complex role in energy homeostasis, storing energy and signaling to other tissues concerning the state of energy balance. The past several years have seen an explosive increase in our knowledge of the transcriptional basis of adipocyte differentiation.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and cancers.
Clinical cancer research : an official journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, 2003The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma) ligands have anticancer activity against a wide variety of neoplastic cells in vitro. Animal studies have chronicled their in vivo anticancer effects and chemopreventive capabilities.

Drugs of Today, 2003
Greater myocardial injury in response to ischemia/ reperfusion (I/R) and increased incidence of congestive heart failure and death in noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, or type 2 diabetes, patients has been clearly identified. Thiazolidinediones (TZDs), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) agonists, act as insulin ...

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma in vascular biology.
Cardiovascular & hematological disorders drug targets, 2007Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) belongs to a family of ligand-activated nuclear receptor and transcription factors. The essential roles of PPAR-gamma in controlling metabolic processes have been underscored by the successful use of PPAR-gamma agonists thiazolidinediones to treat insulin resistance, a central feature of ...
