Quantification and Mechanisms of Oxidative Stress in Chronic Disease
There is now strong evidence that the redox environment inside cells is very different to that outside the cell, and that many extracellular environments are both more oxidizing and also subject to extensive oxidation.

Varicocele is a disease characterized by an abnormal dilation of the pampiniform plexus that drains the testis. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the curative effects of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Dracaena arborea on some reproductive and antioxidant markers in rats with experimental varicocele. Following varicocele induction, rats

The chemistry of peroxynitrite, a biological toxin
Oxyradicals play a tole in several diseases. While for several decades the hydroxyl radical - produced via the Fenton reaction - has been considered the species that initiates oxyradical damage, new findings suggest that much of this damage can be ...

The stratospheric abundance of peroxynitric acid
A recent re‐examination of the kinetics of the reaction of NO2 with HO2 shows this to be a three body reaction leading to the formation of peroxynitric acid (HO2NO2). The rate of formation is such that significant concentrations of HO2NO2 (not previously included in atmospheric models) are expected to form in the stratosphere.

Interaction of solid organic acids with carbon nanotube field effect transistors [PDF]
A series of solid organic acids were used to p-dope carbon nanotubes. The extent of doping is shown to be dependent on the pKa value of the acids. Highly fluorinated carboxylic acids and sulfonic acids are very effective in shifting the threshold voltage and making carbon nanotube field effect transistors to be more p-type devices.

Cardiac spheroids as promising in vitro models to study the human heart microenvironment
Three-dimensional in vitro cell systems are a promising alternative to animals to study cardiac biology and disease. We have generated three-dimensional in vitro models of the human heart (“cardiac spheroids”, CSs) by co-culturing human primary or iPSC ...

Symmetry Scheme for Amino Acid Codons [PDF]
Group theoretical concepts are invoked in a specific model to explain how only twenty amino acids occur in nature out of a possible sixty four. The methods we use enable us to justify the occurrence of the recently discovered twenty first amino acid selenocysteine, and also enables us to predict the possible existence of two more, as yet undiscovered ...
