Relaunching a Traditional Durum Wheat Product: New Cultivars and Introgression Lines Identified for Frike Making in Turkey

open access: yesFoods, 2023
Frike is an ancient and traditional food product prepared from early harvested whole wheat grain, particularly durum wheat (DW). Due to its many health beneficial effects, frike is considered a functional food.

Structural characterization of the active form of PerR: insights into the metal‐induced activation of PerR and Fur proteins for DNA binding [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 2009
SummaryIn Bacillus subtilis, the transcription factor PerR is an iron dependant sensor of H2O2. The sensing mechanism relies on a selective metal catalysed oxidation of two histidine residues of the regulatory site. Here we present the first crystal structure of the active PerR protein in complex with a Mn2+ ion.

A macroscopic Washburn approach of liquid imbibition in wood derived from X-ray tomography observations

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Imbibition of water and silicone oil in poplar and spruce is investigated at the anatomical level by X-ray tomography observations and at the macroscopic level by imbibition kinetics. Imbibition mechanisms depend on both liquid and species.

A Novel Strategy to Enhance Antioxidant Content in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Based on Oxygen Pressure

open access: yesBioengineering, 2023
Antioxidant foods represent a potent lever to improve diets while creating value. Yet, their cultivation is often tied to a specific area and climate, limiting availability and increasing market cost. Therefore, microorganism-based antioxidant production

Peroxide Stimulon and Role of PerR in Group A Streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2011
ABSTRACT We have characterized group A Streptococcus (GAS) genome-wide responses to hydrogen peroxide and assessed the role of the peroxide response regulator (PerR) in GAS under oxidative stress.

Structure and function of the Leptospira interrogans peroxide stress regulator (PerR), an atypical PerR devoid of a structural metal-binding site [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2018
Peroxide sensing is essential for bacterial survival during aerobic metabolism and host infection. Peroxide stress regulators (PerRs) are homodimeric transcriptional repressors with each monomer typically containing both structural and regulatory metal-binding sites. PerR binding to gene promoters is controlled by the presence of iron in the regulatory
