ABSTRACT Instruction Tenapanor potentially affects fluid volume and blood pressure. This study explored its effects on these parameters in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods We conducted a single‐arm, prospective observational study that enrolled 10 patients on PD with hyperphosphatemia who were newly initiated on tenapanor.

Background Phenotypic resistance is considered as a serious therapeutic challenge for which a definitive remedy has not been discovered yet. Biofilm and persister cell formation are two well-studied phenotypic resistance phenomena, leading to the ...

Recovery and characterization of Proteus mirabilis persisters
Bacterial persistence is a phenomenon in which a subpopulation of cells survives antibiotic treatment. The occurrence of bacterial persisters is associated with recurrence of chronic infections.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Killing occurred upon wake-up of persister cells.
(A) Representative fluorescence images of control and minocycline treated E. coli HM22 normal and persister cells after LIVE/DEAD staining (scale bar = 10 μm). Fluorescence signals were used to compare the viability of normal (B) and persister (C) cells.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Candida albicans biofilms are generally devoid of persister cells
International audienceCandida albicans is known for its ability to form biofilms - communities of microorganisms embedded in an extracellular matrix developing on different surfaces. Biofilms are highly tolerant to antifungal therapy. This phenomenon has

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Mcl-1 and tumor cell persistence
Effective genotoxic cancer therapies induce not only classical apoptotic cell death, but also senescence, a persistent state of cell cycle arrest accompanied by distinct morphological and biochemical changes. A number of studies in both animal and human models demonstrate that senescence plays a key role in limiting tumor growth and correlate with ...
