Composing high-level stream processing pipelines

open access: yesJournal of Big Data, 2020
The growing number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices provide a massive pool of sensing data. However, turning data into actionable insights is not a trivial task, especially in the context of IoT, where application development itself is complex.

Cyclic nucleotide signaling as a drug target in retinitis pigmentosa

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Disruptions in cGMP and cAMP signaling can contribute to retinal dysfunction and photoreceptor loss in retinitis pigmentosa. This perspective examines the mechanisms and evaluates emerging evidence on targeting these pathways as a potential therapeutic strategy to slow or prevent retinal degeneration.

A Statistical Perspective on Discovering Functional Dependencies in Noisy Data

open access: yesSIGMOD Conference, 2020
We study the problem of discovering functional dependencies (FD) from a noisy data set. We adopt a statistical perspective and draw connections between FD discovery and structure learning in probabilistic graphical models.

Time, the final frontier

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This article advocates integrating temporal dynamics into cancer research. Rather than relying on static snapshots, researchers should increasingly consider adopting dynamic methods—such as live imaging, temporal omics, and liquid biopsies—to track how tumors evolve over time.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Deformable Part Models are Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yes, 2014
Deformable part models (DPMs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are two widely used tools for visual recognition. They are typically viewed as distinct approaches: DPMs are graphical models (Markov random fields), while CNNs are "black-box" non ...

CAD/CAM from the Graphic Design Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
CAD/CAM Systems have evolved elaborate human-computer interfaces in order to facilitate the creation of highly detailed and specialized schematic diagrams and texts. Although these systems have powerful capacities in terms of graphics editing, data manipulation, and data storage, insufficient attention has been given to making the online interface ...

Today Besancon has the highest percentage of green space per inhabitant among France’s largest cities (200 m2 per capita). 3/4 of it are made up by the Forêt de Chailluz (16.7 km2), a large forest which has maintained its present extent for over six ...

On the classification and treatment of outliers in a spatial context: A Bayesian Updating approach

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal, 2021
Checking and treating extreme values is commonplace in modelling workflows. The main methods to manage outliers may be categorized into graphical, Kriging- and simulation-based approaches.

An omics perspective on drug target discovery platforms

open access: yesBriefings Bioinform., 2019
The drug discovery process starts with identification of a disease-modifying target. This critical step traditionally begins with manual investigation of scientific literature and biomedical databases to gather evidence linking molecular target to ...
