The Commercial Fishery of the Peruvian Amazon
Fisheries, 2004Abstract A combination of increased human population growth, high fish harvest pressure, and adoption of more technologically advanced fishing equipment by the commercial fleet has generated concerns about the sustainability of fish stocks in the Peruvian Amazon.

The effect of Peruvian small‐scale fisheries on sunfishes (Molidae)
Journal of Fish Biology, 2018Reports were compiled of sunfish (family Molidae) by‐catch in Peruvian small‐scale fisheries and sunfish by‐catch rates were estimated using data from shore‐based and onboard monitoring programmes. A total of 114 sunfishes were reported in the longline and gillnet fisheries along the Peru coast from 2005 to 2017.

Interactions Between Leatherback Turtles and Peruvian Artisanal Fisheries
Chelonian Conservation and Biology, 2007ABSTRACT From 1985 to 1999, data were gathered opportunistically on the bycatch of 33 leatherback turtles in coastal Peru, and from 2000 to 2003, a dockside observer program provided data on an additional 133 leatherbacks caught in the coastal gillnet and longline fisheries targeting mahi mahi, sharks, and rays.

Modelling change in the Peruvian-Chilean Eastern Pacific Fisheries
GeoJournal, 1993Time-series analyses of the Peruvian-Chilean Eastern Pacific Fisheries output are presented. The paper discusses how human action and adverse environmental conditions have affected regional productivity levels and fish stock. It is shown that overfishing during critical environmental periods is the likely cause for fluctuations in regional output and ...

With declining capture fisheries production, maintaining nutrient supplies largely hinges on substituting wild fish with economically comparable farmed animals. Although such transitions are increasingly commonplace across global inland and coastal communities, their nutritional consequences are unknown.

Communal Fisheries Management in the Peruvian Amazon
Human Organization, 1997Community-level management of lake fisheries is becoming an increasingly viable alternative in many areas of Amazona. Population growth and increased commercial fishing have led to intense competition and conflict over fishery resources. Conservation can only be successful in these competitive environments when resource management is adapted to solving

Impact of El Niño events on pelagic fisheries in Peruvian waters
Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2004Abstract Using data from stock assesment surveys on pelagic resources during El Nino events of 1972/73, 1982/83, 1997/98, we analyze biological changes on pelagic ecosystems and pelagic fisheries during different stages of development of El Nino phenomenon: emergence, full, final and post-Nino.

Understanding the influence of natural climatic variability on modern fisheries is complicated by over a century of industrial fishing. Archaeological data provide unique opportunities for assessing precolonial and preindustrial fisheries. Records show that anchoveta-vs sardine-dominated fisheries correlate with 20th-century climate change in the ...

Biology and fisheries of Peruvian hake (M. gayi peruanus)
1995The Humboldt Current ecosystem off western South America is a typical eastern boundary current upwelling system which is characterized by high levels of organic production. It is dominated by four pelagic schooling fish species: anchovy (Engraulis ringens), sardine (Sardinops sagax sagax), horse mackerel (Trachurus murphyi) and mackerel (Scomber ...
