Physical, morphological, mechanical and thermal properties of polyester composites reinforced with orientation of purun fiber (Eleocharis dulcis) composition

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Chemical Engineering
Purun fiber (PF), which has been used as a raw material for handicrafts, can be used as a filler in composite materials. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of polyester composites with the addition of PF filler at ...

High Health Care Utilization Preceding Diagnosis With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Although early diagnosis improves long‐term outcomes, patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) often experience prolonged, circuitous paths to diagnosis. To inform diagnostic improvement, we sought to characterize health care utilization in the year preceding diagnosis. Methods We identified 10,021 patients with an incident diagnosis

Discordance Between Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index Domain Weights and Their Association With Organ Damage Accrual

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Studies of damage accrual in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) show associations with disease activity measured by the SLE Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI‐2K), but these associations are imperfect. SLEDAI scores are powerfully influenced by weightings (1–8) assigned to each domain.

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

New Heteroleptic Ruthenium(II) Complexes with Sulfamethoxypyridazine and Diimines as Potential Antitumor Agents

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Two new complexes of Ru(II) with mixed ligands were prepared: [Ru(bpy)2smp](PF6) (1) and [Ru(phen)2smp](PF6) (2), in which smp = sulfamethoxypyridazine; bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline.

Deducing the Conformational Properties of a Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor in Solution by Optical Spectroscopy and Computational Chemistry

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2020
Dacomitinib (PF-00299804) was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). Unfortunately, side effects and disease resistance eventually result from its use.

Identifying Low-Frequency Tree-Ring Variation

open access: yes, 1991
I propose an approach to provide 95% confidence intervals for a chronology of low-frequency tree-ring variation so that a level of significance or importance for trends can be inferred.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Discovery and Evaluation of Thiazinoquinones as Anti-Protozoal Agents

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2013
Pure compound screening has identified the dioxothiazino-quinoline-quinone ascidian metabolite ascidiathiazone A (2) to be a moderate growth inhibitor of Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense (IC50 3.1 μM) and Plasmodium falciparum (K1 dual drug resistant ...
