The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Tissue lipidomic profiling supports a mechanistic role of the prostaglandin E2 pathway for albuminuria development in glomerular hyperfiltration

open access: yesFrontiers in Network Physiology, 2023
Background: Glomerular hyperfiltration (GH) is an important mechanism in the development of albuminuria in hypertension. The Munich Wistar Frömter (MWF) rat is a non-diabetic model of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with GH due to inherited low nephron ...

Controlling Intestinal Organoid Polarity using Synthetic Dynamic Hydrogels Decorated with Laminin‐Derived IKVAV Peptides

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Design rules are presented to control intestinal organoid polarity in fully synthetic hydrogels. The laminin‐derived IKVAV sequence is crucial to obtain correct intestinal organoid polarity. Increasing hydrogel dynamics further supports the growth of correctly polarized intestinal organoids, while a bulk level of stiffness (G’ ≈ 0.7 kPa) is crucial to ...

Changes of serum CA125 and PGE2 before and after high-intensity focused ultrasound combined with GnRH-a in treatment of patients with adenomyosis

open access: yesOpen Medicine
This study aimed to investigate the changes of serum carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in patients with adenomyosis before and after treatment with high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) combined with gonadotropin-releasing ...

Apoptotic caspases cut down the immunogenicity of radiation

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2019
Caspases are known for their ability to precipitate apoptosis. Our findings indicate that accelerating the terminal inactivation of cells dying in response to radiation therapy limit their immunogenicity as a consequence of reduced type I interferon ...

Effect of oleic acid supplementation on prostaglandin production in maternal endometrial and fetal allantochorion cells isolated from late gestation ewes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Elevated circulating non-esterified fatty acids including oleic acid (OA) are associated with many pregnancy related complications. Prostaglandins (PGs) play crucial roles during parturition.

Bioengineered Pancreatic Cancer Immunosuppressive Microenvironment Models for Screening Immunotherapies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bioengineering tumor‐stroma pancreatic cancer models with potential to emulate the native immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Cancer‐on‐a‐bead models exhibited higher relevance for screening immunotherapies and modulating the protumoral PDAC microenvironment. ABSTRACT Pancreatic cancer is notably resistant to treatment, primarily due to its dense
