1H‐Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Metabolic Profiling of Pantaneiro and Curraleiro Beef Breeds: Unveiling Adaptation Mechanisms in Brazilian Livestock

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 69, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study provides the first metabolomic characterization of serum from Pantaneiro and Curraleiro beef cattle, unveiling their unique adaptations to the Pantanal and Cerrado biomes of Brazil. Blood was collected during the summer season to capture metabolic responses to extreme environmental conditions, including high temperatures and varying humidity.

Ruminal pH and N-NH3 behavior: a Bayesian approach

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2016
In this work, we present the Bayesian approach as an alternative to frequentist analysis regarding correlated data of pH and N-NH3 in the Holstein cow rumen. It was observed that for pH and N-NH3 data, a posteriori estimates of coefficients of the regression models were significant, which was not observed for least-squares estimates. Thus, the Bayesian

Cassava Hay Inclusion Improves Fermentation Profile and Quality of Spineless Forage Cactus Silage

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 69, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study evaluated the chemical composition, fermentation profile, microbial populations, aerobic stability, and fermentative losses of spineless forage cactus silage supplemented with varying levels of cassava hay (0%, 7.5%, 15.0%, 22.5%, and 30.0% on a fresh matter basis).

Metagenome sequencing to analyze the impacts of thiamine supplementation on ruminal fungi in dairy cows fed high-concentrate diets

open access: yesAMB Express, 2018
Ruminal thiamine deficiencies occur when dairy cows are overfed with high-concentrate diet, and thiamine supplementation has been proved to attenuate high-concentrate diet induced SARA.

Subacute Ruminal Acidosis in Zebu Cattle: Clinical and Behavioral Aspects

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
We evaluated the clinical aspects and feeding behavior of cattle with subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) caused by short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Ten healthy Nelore heifers were subjected to an adjusted SARA induction protocol using citrus pulp (CP ...

Sudden death in a ewe due to Enterococcus hirae septicaemia

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract A 2‐year‐10‐month‐old ewe, found dead 10 days post‐lambing, was submitted for postmortem examination to the Royal Veterinary College. Significant gross findings included subcutaneous and pleural haemorrhages, cortical renal haemorrhages, hydropericardium and a mural haemorrhagic thrombus in the right ventricular wall.

INFLUENCE OF TIME BETWEEN RUMINAL GLUCOSE CHALLENGES ON RUMEN FUNCTION

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2016
Ruminal lactic acidosis is one of the most important metabolic problems in feedlot cattle. Gradually transitioning cattle to finishing-feedlot diets may reduce the risk for ruminal acidosis by providing sufficient time for adaptation.

Review: Rumen sensors: data and interpretation for key rumen metabolic processes

open access: yesAnimal, 2020
Rumen sensors provide specific information to help understand rumen functioning in relation to health disorders and to assist in decision-making for farm management.

Quantification of nutrient supply in forage-based diets for beef cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
End of Project ReportIntroduction Cattle rearing systems in Ireland are predominantly grass-based as 80% of agricultural land is dedicated to grassland (silage, hay and pasture) (CSO, 2007).
